Looks like the smaller diecast version has been getting cheaper. They started at 18usd here, and now are down to 13usd each. That still hasn't moved me to buy it though.

I'd pay 20 bucks for it.

Right now it's still 65$ total. I think once it hits clearance I'll consider it.

the Blazing sword Voltron is one of the best Voltrons out there, the only thing i dont like about it is the way it looks, its more like a child toy with the matte paint, you can make it pop out more if you highlight some of the lines with a black marker the articulation is so good, and it come with cool stuff, two blazing swords and a box that play the intro of the show i recommend it

I have gone back and forth about buying the blazing sword one many times myself. I keep waiting because I hope we will get a SRC voltron.

Blazing Sword Voltron is really cool. I'm pretty sure it was designed to be a toy, though.
Some time ago I read that Toys R Us was going to carry it with "Voltron Force" as the cartoon tie-in. But, when the show aired on Nick-Toons instead of Nickelodeon they passed on it. Then, it was sold through Matty Collector.
I bought one for my son years ago at a local comic con. He loves it. It does offer the best articulation and posability of any Voltron. And the box is awesome - it plays the "From days of long ago..." intro, along with a "Form blazing sword" vocal. My son displays it in his room.
As for the finish, it matches up with the Giant Matty Voltron (except for the silver face). It is really well made - after years of play the joints are still perfect. Nothing is loose and it still holds a high kick.
It's not a piece of art like the SOC. Neither is it a Funko Pop. It's a cool piece all of it's own. If you're a Voltron fan, I'd definitely pick one up.

I watched the new season last Friday and was very pleased with it. There is one super silly episode that seems to be rather devisive in some circles of people (because it's silly) but the silliness actually serves a purpose in the overall story so it's not just random. As for the smaller diecast Legendary Defender, I recommend it IF you can find it on clearance and IF you keep in mind that it is a mainline toy made for kids and not something to be compared to higher end Japanese collectibles, you know, the toys that are our bread and butter. Hard to not compare with what makes up the meat of our collections, I know. Anyway, I got a gift card from work that I used to pay for most of the set so I was able to look at it a little less critically without having a lot of my own money invested in it. In short, it’s a good toy. The lions are all sturdy with robust construction and fully poseable – they’re actually a real joy to handle and pose at the small size since you can arrange them together in a variety of ways without needing a wide swath of space to do so. Voltron mode holds together well and none of the lions will pop out of place while handling it. It doesn’t have a huge amount of joints (just like the larger version) but it is still fun to pose and easier to handle as an ‘action figure’ since it isn’t so huge. Playmates surprisingly got a good balance with the diecast amount where the toy feels solid but doesn’t collapse under its own weight. Unfortunately the neck still does not turn, which is especially frustrating because they could have easily added that. The went out of their way to remove some articulation from the wings so why not add a simple rotation joint to the neck? It’s really kind of bizarre that they omitted that very important joint TWICE. Again, the price is the main issue with this thing. The Target exclusive set is cheaper but is still far too much. This is a $40-$50 toy tops. Instead it’s basically the same price as the giant version that has tons of accessories, features and lights/sounds. Playmates wants to propagate the myth that metal = expensive, ignoring the fact that some of the cheapest toys in stores are the diecast metal ones. Seriously, one average Hot Wheels/Matchbox/Off-brand car has more metal than one of these lions, and those are like 80 cents and have more elaborate paint jobs. What really sucks is that this is the first diecast super robot to hit American shelves in a very long time and it’s clearly a failure because nobody is buying it (for good reason). Playmates doesn’t seem to understand who they’re selling this to because it’s clearly a kids toy but priced like an adult collectable. Essentially, they got greedy. TL:DR = Toy is totally fine, price is totally not fine.

License or not we know Icarus will deliver. Lol More like Icarus, then Magictoy, then Bubuland 'we-have-the-license' toy, then a loonngggg wait, then released with good quality with shadowy license clarification :-D

It took a long time, but WEP did eventually teamed up with Bandai and got us the ultimate Voltron in its SOC glory. Come to think about it, if the license hadn't gone to Toynami then Mattel, but had gone to Bandai first instead, we would have gotten the SOC a lot earlier. The problem is, if we had gotten the SOC earlier, many collectors would have been satisfied with the SOC and would not have purchased whatever Toynami or Mattel would offer. So in the end, WEP did make the right business decision. They got (some of) us to buy the Toynami Masterpiece, then the plastic one, then the 23" Mattel one, then the blazing sword version, and finally the SOC. Lots more money in the pocket.

sometimes even if you get the most perfect version of a character you still want more lol
