mind you I read something awhile back about the ROI on antique cars far outweighing that of the stock market so there you have it buy antique cars instead of toys

Here's the problem with toy as investment. This has been a crappy week for me. Last Wednesday the credit card balance was blissfully at zero, and I was anticipating about a $90 hit when BBTS shipped my Voltes (had some credit with BBTS). No big deal.
Oil change on the car- OOPS CV boots and axles shot. $500 bucks in the hole. Sunday afternoon I crashed out for a couple hours and woke up with a pounding toothache. $700 bucks deeper in the hole. My wife was on her way home to give me a ride to the dentist. Her car "just stopped". $500 more bucks in the hole. Voltes arrived. $97 bucks deeper. Then my cantankerous Manx cat started coughing and sneezing and acting lethargic. Just got back from the vet and another $120 bucks in the hole.
What does this have to do with toys?
I could list any one of several holy grail toys on ebay, wipe out the debt, and have enough left over to get the tires I still need, the smog check done and the registration and insurance paid.
***BUT***
Just try and part company with something you've held on to for almost thirty years. Sell the Technical Gassin Set? Or hunker down for another year or so of paying off the card? A year from now the card will be paid off and I'll still have the Mekanda. Or a year from now I see a Gassin Set on ebay and think, "I used to have one. What do I have to show for it? No way can I afford to replace that thing..."
Tough call.

you're right! but at the same time... it all boils down to perpectives and how you live your life and how you manage your money... investment is always a gamble doesn't matter what it is... stocks, bonds, real estate.... it's all a gamble.... but if you read my recent replies to others, i'm doing this for more than just money... i'm doing this so i can fill in the void that i missed out on when i was a kid... i will keep these toys until i'm old enough not be able to take care of myself... things are just things... at some point in time, we have to let go... just like selling an old car for a new one, selling an old house for a new one... you get the point?

Buy them if only you like them and if you will enjoy them!
DO NOT BUY FOR INVESTMENT!
People who buy for investment never get what they want and they are the ones who kill (overinflate/oversaturate the market) with false values which could cause the hobby and industry to fall.
Look what happened to the comic scene!!

dricks2080: You have the right idea. Buying toys is a different kind of investment- one you do not make for monetary gain alone. We were talking about this on another thread. The best return that comes from buying these things happens after what I call 'the complete cycle'. It goes like this: You get fascinated by these amazingly cool toys and buy up a zillion of them. Eventually your interest cools, you move on to other things, and you pack up the whole lot of it and store it away. You get to the point where you don't even think about them. Years later you go digging in the garage, the attic, the basement or wherever, and you see the dusty old boxes, take them down, open them up, and find they are full of nostalgia aged and ripened like a fine wine. (that was really cornball, JWM) Anyway you get the idea. The dollar value doesn't hurt the fun, but the fun is there independent of the dollar value. JWM

No, no nerves, it is just we all know that we don't do this because we will be rich and more often that naught we get a newbie who wants to enter the hobby only for the "sport". We are tree huggers...
