ooooh, looks like they geared alternating levels of the drill bits to counter-rotate. I dig that!

Huzzah! My Trooperzoid finally arrived from England a few days ago. Love this guy!
While I was waiting for it to arrive, my ebay finger got itchy, and I got a Brox:
(I’m one of those weirdos who actually digs the “Red Mutants” color schemes some of the Robo Strux releases got.)
I drilled out the barrels of its retractable cannon. Looks more menacing that way.
I also got a second Kreep (the Robo Strux recolor of the Molga).
I never army build, but something about the design really activates my imagination; I needed to see more than one mecha-caterpillar flanking my other red mutants.
I’d had a Molga before, but it was a 2000 release, and the mold degradation was pretty bad. Kreep is a 1985 release so the parts are still nice and crisp.
A Robo Strux recolor of the Trooperzoid/Godos mold will be arriving sometime later this week. After that I just want to hunt down a 1988 Dibison that's in good shape. (And maybe eventually get an Iron Kong Yeti, but that one I'm not sure about yet. Anyone got any thoughts on the Tomy Iron Kong mold? I've never had one before.)

Also I’m an oddball who PREFERS sparse accessories so this sounds like it’s right up my alley! You’re not alone. I’m kinda like that. On the one hand, it’s good to have options. On the other hand, all the options and accessories I never use feel wasteful somehow. I always end up putting all the stuff I never use in separate storage boxes. It’s admittedly weird, but it’s like a psychic weight off my shoulders not to see all those unused parts inhabiting the same space as my robots. I’m not getting this Maz cause I’m not too keen on the style and proportions, but I appreciate the bare-bones nature of the release and love the execution of the launching fists gimmick. I'm curious to see how this release will be compared to other SOC Mazingers ten years on when we have the benefit of hindsight.

happy 2023, everyone! The only new stuff I got in '22 was 40th anniversary HMR Xabungle and SHFSS V3. Both are great, but neither is really TOTY material. No nominations from me. SHF Kamen Rider Old No.1 (from the Tamashii 2022 Event) is probably the best classic Rider SHF ever made (looks like a real Rider just got shrunk down and put in a box, when I open it and saw it in person for the first time). Sounds great. If Luna Park comes through, I should get one when the second run is released in late May, but I'm not about to hold my breath. (I jumped on their first pre-sale, but I didn't use their premium site, and after the event they raised the price, so I got moved to the back of the line . . . ) If you watch the demonstration in my video, I hold the Blitzway parallel to the floor and shake it - the metal structure is COMPLETELY stiff... the legs hold absolutely straight. Nothing budges. I've NEVER seen a 15" combiner do this! Impressive!

Mazinger Z was damaged real bad in the TV series final episode too: Ah, that did happen in the series! I had forgotten. All these years I had thought I must have seen the movie even though I remembered things happening a bit differently.

Mazinger Z get beat up real bad in the finale movie Mazinger Z vs. Ankoku Daishogun. It literally got torn apart just like GX-70D, only to have Great Mazinger shows up in the nick of time to save Koji (which is Great Mazinger's first appearance, and the movie serves as a transition/prequel of Great Maxinger's TV show). GX-70D is pretty much the recreation of that scene, even the 2 sword accessories, which the double Mazingers used to defeat the enemies at the end. Ha! I know about that. That's why they made GX-70! I'm just talking about what they could do with GX-105, the TV series version.

AS I have the rule one mecha, one toy. I will be sticking myself to my GX01 40th anniversary. I love it and I'm really happy with it. I don't feel the need of updating my mazinger... The 40th anniversary GX-01R is a great piece. Probably the Maz I'd pick if I could only keep one. I still love the simple-but-brilliant way the scrander wings sweep back. I do like the fact that GX-70 & 70D, work as a nice pair if you want to have some SOC battle damage action. Kind of rare for a SOC, and pretty affordable too a while back. Wonder if they'll do the same for GX-105 with a 105D. I don't remember Mazinger ever getting really beat up in the course of the regular series. Maybe a char-broiled repaint to recreate its fight with Garada and Doublas?

Zoids are such a great idea for a toy line. Easy-to-build ABS-plastic kits of piloted robot dinosaurs, animals, and insects that are molded in color? Yes, please. And they move?! Many years back, I was downsizing my collection and I got rid of all my zoids. I was a bloody fool. I had somehow forgotten how much I love these things. Fast forward to a regret-fueled online search a few weeks ago: I noticed an unbuilt Radox in a beat up box going for not a bad price. I spent a few days trying to convince myself I didn’t need to reenter the zoids rabbit warren, but of course I gave in. Had an absolute blast building it and watching it go.
That opened the floodgates for a zoid-filled christmas.
Here’s my current menagerie: I’ve also got an unbuilt 1985 Trooperzoid on the way. I had painted and weathered all my old zoids. This time around I’ll keep them pristine and toylike. I think I still want to hunt down a 1988 Dibison at some point, but I’m going to give my wallet a rest for now. Cheers! And happy holidays!

About 40 minutes of discussion and hands-on play.
I've only watched a few minutes, but it looks like it has clicky joints. Also, very shiny. I dig it.

Looking forward to these guys. Stayed away from the first releases but I really dig the colors this time around.

The form, proportion, and colors, Megahouse wins for sure. I am curious if HMR will release the other mechs of the show as well. If it is just the Orguss, I don't need one, already have the Megahouse. But if they release the other mechs, that will make a difference of collecting a line rather than a single. And if Bandai engineered this Orguss to transform much simpler than the Megahouse, then it may have the upper hand of being more playable. Will have to see review samples to tell. Yeah, good point. On a side note, looks like the display at Tamashii Nation 2022 was mis-transformed on the crouch/hip area, when compared to the magazine scan. The white crouch was not fully rotated upwards, and the side brown parts are missing (crouch and hip all white on the toy show display). Maybe even Bandai knew they screwed up the brown colors, significantly lightened in the magazine photo. :D I noticed that. Still has a ways to go for my liking, but does look better in the scan than the toy show pics.

The Takatoku 1/40 still holds up well to this day. Aside the much simpler engineering and yellowing plastic, it is still a fine toy to play with and transform. I've never had one, but it certainly gives me chunky monkey style vibes. Looks very solid and fun. What I do like about the HMR are those small black triangles they added back to the body, makes it really look like the vintage Orguss and Macross line art. Very nice touch. Megahouse only retained some of those on the chest, but removed the others going for a smoother cleaner look. Comparing the two, I think I actually prefer the cleaner look of the Megahouse. (In fact, I prefer pretty much everything about the Megahouse.)
At the moment, I'm more interested in the possibility, however small and distant, of HMR Ishkicks and Nikicks. Bandai could still turn this around with a bit of redesign and better color selection for the Orguss, but I'm not sure what to expect in that regard.

Courtesy of mpchi in the Tamashii Nations 2022 thread: the Megahouse release for comparison.
Also for comparison, the Takatoku 1/80th scale toy, posted by mrclean08. Anyone got a nice pic of the Takatoku 1/40th scale, for the sake of completeness?
