paid $172 for gx-31, voltes v. shipped. i think the 160-180 price range is fair. you can't really find lower than that. probably the orig. release price was around $130 at least w.out shipping.
but my probably most expensive purchase will be the SOC ideon.

Thanks for the reply... sorry if this sounds really stupid, but which axis of movement are you calling lateral for the SoC Eva shoulders? do you mean they can't move outwards like wings, or cant rotate forwards and backwards? Are the EVAs the best as far as poseability? Also, which is better? the regular or spec version?

I respect Toei for their contributions to anime... But rather than shell out $400 for a box-set of anime in any one lone series, I'd rather compile my own personal collection anime sets of choice for much less. I don't include animes posted by ebay scalpers. There are some good dvd dealers who actually own and operate legit businesses selling anime on ebay. But the scalpers are the ones who snatch-n-grab animes from the fansub communities and pass off the bootlegs as their "own" fansub-works, selling VCDs at rape-high prices. zozo-Magengar people wouldn't buy fansub VCDs if the license holders did the right thing with the copyrights they hold in their big portfolios: sell them to a company who will release the shows! this is the biggest issue... some of these guys spend 10s of thousands of $$ on lawyers to fight the bootleggers- either through lawsuits or ebay trawlers- money they could use to release the product legit R1 US NTSC. working for a DVD company, i can also state that fansubbing DOES signifigantly affect companies putting out legit releases in the US. Companies are hesitant to license stuff that fansubbers are putting out in the ether for free. I personally watched an OVA show we were going to put out R1 tank within 4hrs of the torrent for the DVD going up. got your point. but anime is priced outrageously by american distributors. you only get 1 or 2 episodes for $20-30 per disc. the series may have 10 in total. rather pricey.

I just went to amazon.com.jp & placed all the above in my shopping cart, including two gundam tv series box sets, the total came out to $4,000 US approx.! wow! what a deal! I wish I knew a group of people who could buy each set, then we would each make burned DVD-Rs for the other I cant seem to find great mazinger in the link. I can't locate the item on the amazon.co.jp site because I can't read Japanese, however on the Toei site its: shop.toei-video.co.jp/shop/ProductDetail.do?pid=DSTD02225There appears to be releases of everything Zambot 3, Daitarn, Getter Robo G, Fist of the North Star, Gunbuster, Cutey Honey, UFO Grendizer, and Godmarz!

That's Japan for ya. I remember LD sets starting at $650. It's all good for me though. Worth every penny. That's true. I remember in high school, my friend was bragging how he spent $500+ for the Macross LD box set. Anyways, maybe I can find some licensed VCD versions in Thailand. I got the Mazkinkaiser series that way. I would like to finish watching the Saint Seiya series as well. What about the Chinese versions? I saw alot offered online from various retailers. However, the common response, is that the subtitles are poorly translated. I wish I had these box sets:

I've noticed that Toei has released alot of classic Super Robot anime in complete, re-mastered DVD box sets.
Many of which, I have never seen. I looked online and the prices are outrageous! $400+ for a box set.
Anyone know where to get a comparable one on VCD? I just want to watch them.
Mazinger Z, Godmarz, Voltes V, Grendizer, etc...

all i can say is....
not happy with yamato, getter robo (gx-06m), daiku maryu, combattler (gx-03)
be selective. make sure you really like the character, or you'll be disappointed and lose $$$ =(

yeah, but you know voltes is more stable & has more poseability. it seems like no one wants combattler. hobbylink put a sale on him. on ebay, he only sells for less than $100 for auction.
i get the feeling, there's no love for this model, only the orig. popy version.
c'mon, combattler is kind of goofy looking compared to voltes. but my friend says voltes looks goofy too. he said it looked like it had a cone on its head. =P he prefers golion.
if i sell it, i could always use the $$$ for a zambot or ideon. those are too bad-ass!

I just acquired my GX-03 from jlist. Kind of disappointed, really poor packaging, the box was obliterated to grade C8 or lower. They put the item in a bag and surrounded it with bubble wrap. Will not order from them again. However, the contents were untouched. I read the manual and could not get the Battle Crasher to fit perfectly into the Battle Tank. I didn't want to force it, because the components seem too fragile - either break or scratch. Any remedies for this? Or am I not combining Choudenji properly? *Also, I didn't like how the Battle Marine slides into the Battle Tank. The tail rudder of the Battle Marine seems to rub against the Battle Tank... leading to scratches! GX-03 has a good amount of die-cast, but I'm not too happy about the engineering. It just can't compare to Voltes V.

Not sure if you guys know but, I was just informed that they will be re-issuing Zambot 3 this year....FYI and a heads up. I'm on it. Already placed an order with HLJ. Was tempted to get the Getter set, but after purchasing the 'M' ver., I didn't like the quality. I think the Getter Dragon, Poseidon, and Liger are better value for the $$$ Yeah, I sold alot of popular characters to pay-off debt. Gundam, Golion, Dairugger XV, DX Daimos, Garbin, Godsigma, Super Ostrich, VF-1JS Strike Valkyrie, SDF-1... kind of sad... oh well. Its only fair. I took care of them since childhood, mint-in-box, they took care of me by paying my debt. Well at least I can start over again I was referrring to the Uni-5 Godphoenix Grip re-issue. Not the one that you have. However, the Godphoenix you have, more closely resembles the G5 from the anime. I was amazed that even the wings are in angle like in the show when it rises veritically from the ocean. I think the place to go is Akihabara. I'm staying nearby. I don't think Tokyo will be the place for collectibles. I'm assuming its mostly fashion. I'll be going to Mandrake & other stores I found online, and the toy expo that's being held at Big City. They also will have an anime expo the last week of March. Wow! Sexy cosplay girls, I'm there! Unfortunately, I'm only going to search for the smaller ST chogokins. If I find a good deal, I'll bring them back and auction them to help pay for my trip. Even though SOCs don't seem to possess the same value as their older counterparts, I still like the quality. Probably, I will just obtain a Grendizer & IDEON during my trip. Any other finds, will be auctioned. I don't expect to find good deals though. The Japanese are savy when it comes to collecting. They pay high prices for everything. The deals are probably better in HK. You can find alot of chogokin/popy in Thailand as well. But to find a rare specimen at a steal is also difficult. True collectors know the value of such items. So forget about finding a Tetsujin for pennies on the dollar. But you never know!

I think SOCs tend to maintain the same price level since Bandai often reissues. I have the experience of buying SOC GX-08 Aphorodite A and GX-09 Mineva for US$100 each 3 years ago, and now they're about US$30 each after Bandai reissued the two. Currently, however, the SOCs appreciating in value are black-colored releases and special DVD and mook coupon offers, such as the Zambot Ace. Anyhow, if you really want to invest on robot toys, buy vintage Popy Chogokin, especially toy products from defunct companies like Takatoku and Bullmark. Right now there's a glut of SOCs in the market. In Taiwan, some toyshops have sold GX-08MA for less than US$20 because of overstock. In any case, I'm not buying SOCs to sell later, I just like them. As for which SOC to chose, Zambot 3 or Ideon, I'd say get both, but the big boxes are going to be a pain to bring back from Japan. Also, you have to consider your budget. In my opinion, Ideon seems a lot of fun. Just as other RJ members have mentioned, Zambot tends to be limited in poses compared to newer releases. The picture of Ideon's kick tells you something about the poses you can do with that toy. Zambot can only stand upright on your shelf and that's about it. Thanks for the info. ;D I agree. The value of older chogokin will never compare to what's available now. I had many old chogokins, which I sold on ebay in its entirety to pay-off some school debt. I used some of the money to purchase SOCs. Their poseability and looks are great. But they lack the appeal of older design. I think 30 years from now, there will be an abundant amount of SOCs in mint-condition. Unlike the current market, where finding mint Popy is costly and nearly impossible. Wow! You have a Uni-5 Phoenix. I always wanted one of those. But I'd really like to get that mini G5 that was re-issued.

Not likely Bandai will mess up Ideon though, consider its anime status in Japan, as well as the price of this SOC. But we'll see. In terms of price, Ideon cost more. 22000yen vs. 17800yen. i'll be in japan late march. probably around the time of release for ideon. i'll take a close look at the contents before buying, and then make my decision. i'm not really attached to zambot as i never watched the cartoon

zambot3 - trouble w/the weapons? what do you mean?
i have voltes v and its superb! i have the gx-06m getter box, and found it to be clumsy. i don't really like the method of connecting a lower to upper half body to a flimsy plastic peg, its just bound to have imperfections. i'll have to read over the difficulties with zambot - such as poseability & assembly.
ideon looks promising. i'm just curious as to its diecast content. more metal is better!

I'm going to Japan, and wanted to obtain either of these in March 07'. What do you think the long-term investment value will be? At first review of IDEON, I wasn't crazy about the character or the looks, but after looking at the detail Bandai will offer, and its transforming capabilities and size, I think it would be cool. Definitely beats Gunbuster in my opinion. Thoughts? VS.Doesn't IDEON remind you of Optimus Prime? Can't afford both unfortunately!
