Giant Robo was a real departure from the original. It may have upset some die-hard fans but it created a tremenously entertaining anime that brought that robot to life for a new audience.
I've loved super robots since the 70's when I was a kid but I've never taken them too seriously. So I'm looking forward to seeing what surprises come along with the new Mazinger - giant rocket punches and all.
Lighten up guys, these robots are supposed to be over-the-top, crazy, and fun. And yes - I've got the SOC on pre-order already.

New Combattler reissue? Never heard of it.... Only voltes new release in December.... Where u heard it? It's in the stores here in Singapore. It wasn't available until late in December. Has anyone picked it up? I'm curious if they made any other fixes to the design.

Anyone picked up the new Combattler SOC released in December? I hear the only difference is the head? I'd love to hear a review of this from someone before I splash out on buying one.

Perhaps you could frame your cell between two sheets of glass? That way you can still see both sides. ;D

Speaking of Orguss have you guys seen this new Palm Action Orguss from Megahouse?! Sweeet! I can't wait until this comes out. www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10064316a6/20/6It's a shame they aren't the same size as the Revoltechs.

;D
I had a bunch of these when I was a kid. I think my older brother picked a boxset for me. There was Chopper, Tanker, a red Macross Valkyrie, and SDC Orguss. Great toys except for tanker - he couldn't really hold the robot form and always fell backwards into tank mode.
I had the crossbones SD Macross too but I picked that up separately myself.
I wish I had them now. ^^

My favourite is this massive vinyl Gaiking. I picked it up at an expo in Birmingham UK. I'm pretty sure it's a Hong Kong knock off but I've never seen another on like it. Actually, I'd be curious to hear from you guys about this version. Anyone seen one like this with really pointy horns? Here he is in the company of his little Revoltech brother.

Hi Stonesunshine,
I found this book ages ago years ago at a comic shop in Nottingham. The ISBN number is ISBN4-07-304651-9 . I hope that helps. I've always found it tricky to pick up these Japanese soft cover books so maybe someone else here has some place they can recommend, or maybe there are some scans on the internet somewhere. It's a great book so I wish you luck. ^^

Hi KingboyD,
I'm using Firefox and the images don't appear until after I right click and select View Image. Hope that works for you . ^^

Sorry I don't read Japanese so I can't give you any more details on the artist. The images are from Super Robot Encyclopedia. You can still buy copies or find scans of the whole book online without looking too hard. It's a great book though so I'd recommend getting a copy while you can. ^^

For me, my obsession was triggered by Shogun Warriors toys and comics and Force Five on TV. Transformers and the others you've mentioned never made nearly as much of a mark on my imagination.

Thanks Actarus. I've only really seen pictures of the High Dream toy so I'd like to know more about it's size, material, poseability, quality, etc. Really how does is rate against the SOC Grendizer. I'm hoping Kaiyodo will add a Grendizer to thier Revoltech line-up. I'm pretty impressed with te quality and amazing posability for the price.
If it's worth getting hold of then it's a case of where to get one. Ebay doesn't seem to turn anything up but I haven't tried Diamond yet.

Does any one have one of these High Dream UFO Spazer with the ejectable Grendizer? I haven't seen any reviews and can't find any stockists. I'm a huge Gendizer fan and I'd love to have one - the Chogokin was a little out of my price range. ^_^;
