It is a custom job. He created some "device" to attach to the back of the head that apparently is held on by adhesive. It's nice that it makes the horns look like the original, just a shame the "device" is so big.

Correction on my part, the Garada went for $15,000....but still compared to what the defective and suspect Q9 just went for, it's a bargain for the rarest of rare jumbos. Did we ever get any confirmation on whether it's 3 or 4 in existence?
As far as rare goes on some of these pieces, it might just be that right now people are holding on to their collectibles and they just aren't hitting the market which gives the appearance of rarity. There are some pieces in other styles of toys (sofubi) that I've been looking for that aren't rare by any means but they don't come up for sale very often which gives the appearance of rarity.

Kind of makes you scared to put that kind of money down knowing that it could be a fake.

Great idea for a thread. I made a run at Daltanious this week but came up short. The price is getting crazier and crazier. I guess I'll never get my dream jumbos without selling my entire collection first. I'd love a Daltanious and Battle Fever, but neither are in my top 10 at the moment. It's always interesting to see people's top must buys. My tops are Kame Bazooka, Hasami Jaguar and Taihou Buffalo.

Fakes? Why isn't there anything in their feedback about it or why are they allowed to continue selling? There was a seller that Rinkya warned me about, but it wasn't this one. I mailed them about specific pieces I was looking for (Dablas M2 in particular) and they specifically told me to stay away from a certain seller because he sold repro pieces and repaired jumbos to pass off as real, but it was in that seller's feedback too.

I wonder what exactly the mod done to head was and if it leaves a hole?

I expected high, but not that high. And just think that a decade ( and a better economy )ago for 3 grand more you could have gotten the rarest of rare Garada. There are quite a few very nice jumbos on auction right now with some fairly high starting prices that sit there with no one bidding. I bet if they lowered the entry point, they would get close to if not higher than the entry price as people get caught up in the bidding.

page10.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/m119611621Aside from picking up the Kamen Rider villain jumbos, the Q9 is the only other villain jumbo that I want....but not at that price with a visible defect. But of course the rarity would leave me at wanting one in any condition.

Those and the wings (for the non pegged version) are the more difficult pieces to get. I had to buy 2 just to get a complete set of both hand clips and the wings. I inquired about repros but I was told that it wasn't something in the works because they are easier to get.

Kitsir makes the Popy ones. I bought a set and they look amazing and are very durable. I haven't done the resto on my LJN yet. I had to buy 2 Voltrons to get a complete one with the sword, wings and both jaws. I think I've lost interest in doing it unfortunately (due to my new Gunpla obsession) and will probably just sell the stickers and 2 Voltrons.

It is a pretty important part! Too bad, other than that it's in great shape. Wonder if kitsir could repro it

Damn $9300 for a custom. That's insane.

And it's now over $7000. People have more money than sense it appears. For $7000 you could buy quite a number of those kits and build and build and build until your skill comes to the point of being able to do it yourself. Or I bet, you could contact a well known Gunpla modeler/modder and offer them $3000 and I bet they would jump at the chance of making that much money for a few months work.

He did actually do a great job of detailing his mods. A talented member of the US Gunpla community could try to reproduce his efforts and see what the results would be on eBay as an experiment. I bet it would fetch MAYBE $500. I've seen some truly talented Transformer modders get that much from some truly beautiful Masterpiece customs that look factory made, so a Gundam 1/100 model wouldn't probably get much attention.

That is truly beautiful work....but over $6200 for a 1/100 model kit? That's just insane. If it was modded and pimped by the designer from Bandai that created the design and tooling then maybe I could somehow rationalize it, but just a really nice custom....no way.

I'm actually going to start in the Gunpla world and I need a few tips as I'm going to start my first model in over 10 years (my first were those cheap Gundam Wing models that were sold everywhere when the show was on Cartoon Network). I don't want to just do a straight out of the box build as I do want some added look and feel, so here are my questions:
1. Panel lines : Wash or marker? And do I do it straight on the plastic or should I clear coat it first? 2. Coat : Glossy or matte? 3. Labels : Before or after coat? I read that the results are better on a glossy surface, so should I do it straight to the plastic or coat glossy first then apply the labels then recoat? 4. Nub marks : Just sand them? How do I cover up scuff marks from the sanding or will a 1000 + grit do that or clear coat? 5. White marks: How to avoid them? Cut the pieces with extra nub and sand?
Sorry for all the newb questions. I've looked everywhere on the net and there are so many different and often conflicting tutorials. I figured I'd ask here since this is where I like to read and post and Kumas models looking amazing!

PO are closed on most sites now, I wonder if this is becoming an habit since it was already the case with Mazinkaiser. POs closed and reopened a few days after, irresistibly dragging the fearful masses of collectors into preordering They all know we are a panicky bunch with unstable emotions! What better way to sell out than to create an artificial shortage and then be the saviours with more supplies! It also throws those people that were on the fence or otherwise not going to buy it into making last minute POs so that they feel better about not having to worry about outrageous after market pricing. It's incredibly smart of them to play us like that

BBTS is probably closer to you... www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=BAN15425&mode=retailAs for your prefered shipping procedure, you might wanna check out whatever options BBTS might have... perhaps they can ship to you EMS. zozo-mag So what's the shipping going to be like from various places so I know who to PO from? I live on the east coast and always go EMS since I'm damned impatient! I thought that BBTS might be the way to go. If the shipping would be in the range of what I paid to get Mic & Piggy, the total qould be about $106. Mic & Piggy were on my doorstep about 3 days after ordering. If I PO from an overseas company with EMS, it would easily hit the $106+ mark since the box will definitely be decent sized and heavy, so BBTS it is for me. Thanks for reassuring me on that Magengar!

Anyone going for that boxed Spartan? It looks like an amazing piece in beautiful condition. I find it odd that the seller is selling hundreds of moped parts with a few odds and ends and then he has this grail....and obviously knows it's rare and valuable given his opening price.

I'm going to have to say you are still wrong on this and hope you can understand the differences between large scale manufacturing and small collector runs. The people in the older threads were referring to if someone were to personally try to get a jumbo made on a small scale, not from a multinational corporation who has billions of dollars and access to low cost tooling and parts and licenses. If I or any of the members here were to try to make a line of jumbos, the tooling, manufacturing, painting, stickering, etc. would necessitate a $300 per piece price to make money (probably way more as a $300 price would be with a minimum order of around a thousand pieces). Plus let's not forget licensing fees otherwise we would have to factor in legal costs of getting sued. I don't think anyone doubts mattel, hasbro, etc could make them cheap like the 30" ones are, but the old conversations were about the small manufacturers or startups from collectors which WOULD be $300 plus minimum. I'm sure it cost S7 quite a bit to get the Storm Trooper jumbo out there which caused the price to be $$. Plus, this is a niche market for collectors only as none of our beloved recognizable properties could maintain any type of footage in a Toys R Us or Walmart without any accompanying marketing ( ie cartoon/comic/movie).
