I checked out the eBay Atlas - are the knockoffs OK or not great quality? What is the name of the right one by threeA? I see McFarlane toys has one coming out in April. May have to pick that up...

I just joined after not being able to find FB pages around mech/robots and found out this forum the place to go for info, answers to my questions, and advice. Great community and wonderful resource. I'm in the lightsaber boards as well, which have also seen a slowdown but new members as well. Forums have functions FB doesn't have.

But what is great about toy collecting, it's Art. There are no better then the others, each like his robot for a different reason! I agree with that. My love of chogokin is based on them being creations of functional art. The Mazinger and Great Maz are such iconic designs and have had such an impact on pop culture. As for Grendizer, thanks all for the feedback. After much consideration, I'm going for the anime SRC Grendizer. The pearl white grew on me and the reviews were great. I also think the white parts help differentiate Grendizer from Maz and Great Maz, defining him more as a separate and distinct piece. Now to find a GX-45 and deciding which Great Maz...

I found the following prices with shipping: anime SRC Grendizer w/spazer $120, original release SRC Grendizer $150 (eBay), and Kuragane SRC grendizer - $100 (Nippon-Yasan preorder). How are those prices? Are there any other good websites to look for chogokin?
The spazer is not a big deal for me. I like the look of the 1st release and this would be my top choice but I am opening up to the others. The anime version is cool but I'm not sure about the white leg and arm parts. Seems like it would clash with other chogokin. Does it come off as too cartoonish? The Kuragane finish is nice but not sure about matte black on shoulder parts... decisions...

How does King Arts quality compare to SOC? I love the battle damage look. The three zero version is spectacular but I understand it has has no die-cast content. Not sure if $350 is worth that. Is there a pre-order on the King Arts? Any idea about cost?

Thanks. I will definitely be looking out for this. I assume the price stateside will be $100+ but that's what I will likely have to pay for a GX-45 or a SRC Grendizer.

Thanks for the awesome suggestions! I've been researching after reading all of this. For Maz, I think I will go for the shin GX-45. I love the height and the articulation gets great reviews. Plus, Maz haz rocket punch! For Great Maz, I might wait a bit. Perhaps the GX-02. Not sure if the new DC version is right for me. For grendizer, it looks like the solo SRC version is the way to go. They will look nice next to my vintage 5" shogun Great Maz. I've got the Hero Collection 6" Great Maz but I'll likely sell it. Now, to begin the search for some good deals on these guys.
Out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on non-Chogokin versions of these - the plastic ones? Are they worth looking at or are their questions about how time treats them?

What is the best Mazinger z, great Maz, and Grendizer? I assume they are SOC. I'm not concerned about screen accuracy, just look, articulation, rocket punch, and quality/durability. 7" is better but not a deal breaker. Also, not including DX. It seems GX-45 is up there but would love to hear thoughts from those more experienced. Thanks!

It seems that a decent 5" mazinga is going to cost at least $50-$60 based on eBay prices. That is without box, in decent shape with no damage to head sculpt or body, with both fists and the jetpack/scramjet. The fists alone are selling for $25 and the jetpack $10. Finding a decent figure without major damage also will be at least $25-$45 without all the accessories.
The earlier version with the yellow jetpack part and the stickers on the front will be more.
