<LOL> yeah, that series is roughly ten years older than I am! I first watched the Evil Brain movie on tv back in the early '70s. To dme30: Oh man, you got my dogears standin in "satellite" mode-- a live-action Getter film, perhaps a classic? That calls for a torrent-search! ;D zozo-Magengar But Starman suggest stars, meaning Science it's a work of fiction hence it is toku. LOL 50's?? Dude, um doesn't that date you? LOL Just kidding, homie.

Any pics would help zozo-Magengar Here's something you guys can maybe help me with. I am pretty sure there was a live action GETTA ROBO back in the day...I also distinctly remember an old POPY BOX for a diecast toy of Getta Robo that had the live action Getta 1 for the box art. Does anyone remember this one?

Don't forget - any camera tricks - down to and including just a quick edit - can be considered a "special effect." Your "starman" guy transformed - that's qualifies as a tokusatsu hero. Just because there's no visual enhancement to the cut, doesn't make it any less a "special effect" - just look at the original Kamen Rider who's henshin basically involved putting on a helmet. And yes, Robocon too - heck, he's a robot (why the heck are we even debating Robocon's status?).

Starman (Supah Jaianto) clip: more info here: www.internationalhero.co.uk/s/supergiant.htmI'd say he counts Back to the (kind of) matter in hand, more Tokusatsu talk in this area of the board. Almost all of my Tokusatsu viewing is from online clips/episodes, there's nothing on tv here in the UK (I can't even get Power Rangers) unless an old Godzilla movie pops up late at night (almost never). That said, Toku stuff is probably my main focus as a toy collector. Because I don't have much knowledge of the series most of my decisions are based on asthetics, I just buy what I like the look of, so I'm interested in a whole bunch of stuff I've never seen the shows for, just the odd 3 minute clip. Anyway I guess my point is that I may not have much input into any 'what's going on in the latest show' discussion, but I'm interested to read it and I more than interested in any talk of mechandise that maybe connected. So bring on more Ultraman, Karmen Rider, Sazer-X, Gridman, Jumborg Ace, Mirror Man, Spectreman... (I could go on, and on...)

Starman (Supah Jaianto) clip: I'd just like to say a big thank you for finding that clip! And I'd also like to point out that I notice that reverse-film cuts are a lost art. When this guy made "super" jumps to high places, the edits were so slick, the only way I knew there'd been a camera-trick was that well, in the back of my head, it's the only logical thing they could've done to accomplish that effect. But there were no telltale signs it was reverse-run film (unlike say, something as recent as this year's Kamen Rider Kabuto - where one episode showed a Rider jump OUT of water and you can clearly tell the water was "unsplashing" when he came out)... But Starman even with his fluttery "cape arms" were still so neatly trimmed in editting that you couldn't really tell which way the action might've been filmed. Bravo!

Yeah, Reverse-Jump/Leap effects cuts were popular filming techniques at the time. It was also used alot during the '70s for many of the classic Chinese kungfu movies, such as those produced by the Shaw Brothers! ;D zozo-Magengar Starman (Supah Jaianto) clip: I'd just like to say a big thank you for finding that clip! I missed the whole tidbit about the robots and stuff... Here's my input:
Generally most people outside of the good ole U S of A, do not really see the clear line between the toylines like we seem to. They are not as particular or technical as to distinguish one as "Robot" and another as Sentai or whatever. This is all part of the same hobby and as DME30 has mentioned it is part of the same popculture. Suggesting opening the board up to discussions of toylines such as Jenny and Hello Kitty is ridiculous since whomever will try, will most likely get ridiculed. In any case, Jenny and Hello Kitty is not Tokusatsu.
However, Hyper Hobby, Gigahobby, Denki Hobby and Hobby Japan does feature these toylines because again, this hobby is a bit different in other countries in that, women, yes women/girls/females/broads (;P) etc are also involved in the hobby. A good "Hobby" mag should cover these topics as well.
A Good hobby shop or Japanese Toy Store here in the US and abroad will usually carry Robots or they like to call it "Diecast Figures", Gundam models, DVD's, Japanese Action Figures, FF, CAPCOM, G-Taste, etc., 12" figures, Hot Toys, BBI, Cool Girls, Airsoft and yes, Jenny and Hello Kitty...sometimes they have the cheeky stuff like toy poop! LOL

Now, the Snake, he is vunerable from above..." Love it!

Gort that sucks, however you are not missing anything by missing out on Saban's destruction of the Sentai shows, for the most part it is the same here in the US. We can only watch DL's of clips, go to china town and buy the poorly translated questionable DVD's and some make it as official DVD's at our CE(consumer electronics, e.g. Bestbuy Circuitcity) stores but they can be pretty expensive.

Count me in. I have largely ignored this section in the past because of the Power Rangers portion of the title. I am not a huge fan of "Power Rangers" although I am very familiar with the history of Sentai and am a huge fan of Goranger and later shows. The fact that the title included Power Rangers threw me off and I dismissed this section as wholely devoted to the crap American-aired/Saban franchise. This may be happening with other users as well. Many of you know that a large portion of my collection is devoted to Ultraman and related kaiju, so I am no stranger to that either. I say this is a good idea. It would be nice to post about these kinds of toys and have good discussion with other fans of same. You see, the board is already coming back around.

Dyl, homie...Kaiju and Uruturaman, dude...you must be a KMH regular. You know Brian lurks on this forum...we should give Brian a shout-out! LOL Wondring if the mods have been ignoring our efforts, not one has chimed in on this topic. Not even one saying, "You fools, this is our forum and we don't care what you guys vote for, I want to call it Power Ranger and it will be called Power Ranger..." as he takes yet another check from Haim and Michael Izner... LOL Yo mods? How about it? I think the activity of this forum has grown from once every two weeks to an actual sort of serial following, how about letting us know what our chances of actually changing this forum name so people will post here about this stuff are? Is this even a subject you guys are considering inside that cold, mysterious, forbidden Mods only area? Let us know thanks. LOL

00silvergt, whatever the outcome this thread has managed to bring a few Tokusatsu fans together and create some discussion. For that alone I'm grateful. Lets hope we can keep up the momentum and bring a little more variety to this section, whatever the name.
(and if a main title change isn't on the cards, maybe getting stuff like Ultraman, Kamen Rider, Masked Rider, Godzilla etc into the sub-title could help?)

As you can tell I've thrown my hat in the ring by posting in this forum as much as possible. Bring in some Gojira, albeit it is my understanding the big guy is going into hiatus for a couple of years. Yes, let us make it a conscious effort that this forum should be in the last 10 posts feature so that it will be visible to other members who has not quite crossed over. Because as much as super robots are popular, there are actually more toku fans in the world! LOL

I'm bumpin this to da forefrunt and maybeee it'll help get some more attention and bring in more input from fans of this genre... I don't have any Goranger Varijet toys (the Varidorin Jet RULES!!!) otherwise I'd post pics of them here or there or wherever around here... because since I've joined RJ, I've yet to see Any Varijet toy pics posted in RJ, let alone fans who may have these toys but feel shy about posting them? Ok, This is Global "COMING OUT" Day for all you Tok' fans: Git yer Varijets OUT of da Closet, and Into the Scene! Heck, Strap rubberbands to the props and make 'em fly right at the camera if ya have to, just get them toys OUT INTO VIEW! ;D If I can post a Bumbleball pic here at RJ, and we All know that Bumbleballs aint No real Suki-suki; then y'all can post yer Varijets here for all to see! All ya have to do iz just Flash, Flaunt, and Represent! I wanna see 'em all, Varijets of all shapes and sizes, from da classix, 2 da Retro, 2 da Customz, artworx, conversation pieces, and even Varijets casted from mama's gold teeth!... And then get OUT the rest of yer Goranger toyz, and make us Wow up in this beotch! <LOL> And while ya at It, press da radio-button that sez YES at da top of this thread page! ..Sho nuff? Now, Show! ;D zozo-Magengar
