Really like this Sirbine, partly because I am a big fan of the Aura Phantasm series. But partly because this iteration of Sirbine never had any type of action figure made before, and has a very attractive sculpt and colors compare to the OVA version. The only thing bothered me a bit is the shield design. Don't think it matches the look very well, as the old illustration never showed the front of it, and Bandai just made up something new for the HG kit, and reused on this. Anyway, preordered.

I don't own any Aura Phantasm figures My familiarity with Dunbine is only from the anime The extra detailed designs are super cool though but some of them are too expensive now.

I don't own any Aura Phantasm figures Same. I dig the designs and I'm glad Bandai is making them, but unlike the series designs, they hold no nostalgia for me. Still awesome to see the Dunbine universe get such good figures.

To me, Aura Phantasm is the true iteration what Dunbine series should have been, if it was not limited by the commercial aspect (kid's toys) and the animation trends and constraints of what early 80's can do. More detailed and organic, and only lived in illustrations and artbooks, until now. I am on the opposite end, skipping all Dunbine TV releases, but bought almost all the Aura Phantasm ones.

I certainly get the appeal. Izubuchi is one of my favorite designers. But for me, the limitations and conventions of 80's animation are part of the charm; part of the jumbled history of how the designs were originally brought to life. Besides which, limiting myself to TV designs is one way I keep my collection in check (and keep myself sane as a collector).
Got any pics of your Aura Phantasm collection? It'd be cool to see them together.

I was blown away and impressed the the look of the Phantasm Zwarth. But it is one of the most expensive ones to find nowadays.

I was blown away and impressed the the look of the Phantasm Zwarth. But it is one of the most expensive ones to find nowadays. Really impressive indeed, though it is really a display piece, with all the weight of the giant backpack and the wings. Need a few support arms from the stand to keep everything balanced. But man is it beautiful. It seemed pricey at the time asking for $200, but thinking back, you can't get a whole lot for $200 these days. The display base is so huge, you can fit another aura battler or two for a fight diorama. An old pic of the first 3. If only they could turn Aura Phantasm into an anime OVA of sort with today's technology and animation, and the aesthetics of these beauties...

Whoa yeah. They do look fantastic. Yeah, I am just so glad Bandai keep making these. Its like a dream came true, when I thought the Phantasm line is going to die after Zwarth. Then comes Billbine, then another, then another... Just that haven't made room for them all so some are still in the box. But it is one of my treasured collection now. Wouldn't have dreamed possible 8-10 years ago, when all there was were some garage kits of these guys.

MRD Billbine arrived yesterday.
Lovely sculpt and paint. Great attention to detail, with a high parts count for better color separation. Feels solid despite some delicate bits like the wings. After handling it a while, I think it might be my favorite battler toy. Definitely a huge improvement over the regular Billbine release.

MRD Billbine arrived yesterday.
Pretty close to pulling the trigger on this one myself, just that the anime look doesn't match well with my Aura Phantasm ones. But not often you see a Dunbine gokin of sort these days...until they recently announced the MB Sirbine. I have this instead.

I should add; the MRD Billbine's off-white color (and to a lesser extent the red color) is done in a heavily pearlescent paint that doesn't really translate in photographs but looks gorgeous in person. I really dig this thing. It feels like the SOC Billbine I always wanted but never expected to see.
I'm curious if they have any plans to follow it up with an MRD Dunbine. (I don't expect it, but I'd pounce on it if it happened.)

It's not perfect. The waist has these obvious mold lines on the front that the regular release didn't have. You can see that clearly in this pic from the hacchaka review: It has less room to maneuver the back-mounted cannons than the regular RD. The joints that mount the cannons also look needlessly delicate, but it'd be very difficult to break them unintentionally.
And while the joints aren't loose, I feel like the knees and waist could be tighter than they are. Both are still tighter than they ever were on the regular release though. One more thing to note, the wings are packed separately, and for some reason they are about 100 times easier to pop into place if you pop the red backpack bits (aura converters) off their ball joints on the back of the shoulders first. (The aura converters easily pop back on.)
...Those are the only quibbles I can come up with. Really, aside from the mold lines on the waist, it feels like this thing earns its premium pricing.

Some gratuitous pics (with bonus cat content), cause I'm still having a blast with this thing.
Also noticed wotafa has a review up.
I didn't realize the elbows could pull out like that. And he seems to have missed that the neck can do the same.
