Now... as for avoiding ALL swaps? You can't. Because then your battloid head would be ....weird. He'd kind of look like Robocop without the face shield because that black "forehead" is part of the antennae swap-in part. Also the "ear" antennae are also swap-in bits. And finally, you'd have no hands. Ah. So the hands did not retract into the forearms, but instead is removable and have to be attached. Must be a scale constraint issue. Bandai can probably push it, but the forearms would need to be hollow like some of the Transformers toys... I wonder if the next 1/100 VF-1 will be full transformation without any parts swap whatsoever. If Toynami can do it in 1/100 scale, it should be a walk in the park for the Bandai engineers.

I'm thinking the brand is just to make it "fit" with the old Hi-Metal figures from the 80's. Remember those little Gundam figures? They didn't have that much metal in them either (I have the reissue Double-Zeta Gundam and it also is pretty plasticy)... Anyway, loved the review on CollectionDX - they're always real thorough and most importantly, the review was honest about his biased love for Macross7.

Yes, I do own that helmet and jacket. And yes, I should be committed to an asylum for that.

just checked out collectiondx and theres news about a hi-metal yf-21
I skipped over the yamato 1/60 version b/c of the price and q/c issues with yamato
looks like this will fill that gap now
maybe a hi-metal yf-19 and vf-11b will be on the way that would be nice. I didnt care for the floppy-ness of the yamato 1/60 and price of the vf-11b.

If you skipped Yamato's 1/60 YF-21 for fear of QC issuesm then you are SOOOOOO missing out.

I don't mind the look of the 'join' lock... it seems to give it better articulation for the leg. However, I collect 1/60... these are not for me anyway.

I can't help but think that Bandai ripped off Yamato's VF-1 design in that Hi-Metal rendition. lol.

It's a modern VF-1 toy with the aim of staying close to the line art so it's going to look pretty similar. How else could Bandai have made it without being accused of 'ripping off' Yamato?

I actually meant the design of the transformation and not the design in relation to accuracy with line art, because I kinda find the transformation design looking a lot like Yamato's.

Well that can't be helped too because all Valkyrie toys (except those made by Toynami) are developed under supervision from Shoji Kawamori.

I actually meant the design of the transformation and not the design in relation to accuracy with line art, because I kinda find the transformation design looking a lot like Yamato's. The VF-1 is a design that's been around forever, and there's not a lot that Yamato has done with it that has deviated from the original 1/55 transforming bricks. About the only innovation they've really had on the base transformation is their "hiding" swing-bar, which from what I can see from both the front and the side view of the hi-metal toy, has its own implementation which kind of removes the only real point of comparison. It's cool to see that this valk has proper side-to-side bendy ankles (something sorely lacking from most valks), and the big honking holes on the sides of the backpack are practically screaming "Fast packs". Now, the question becomes will the fast packs be a Tamashii exclusive? (probably) - and then if so, will there be future non VF-1J (Iconic or not, it's got to be the most BORING valk in existence) releases that might include them? I'd be tempted by a VF-1S Roy, but right now this guy just isn't screaming "buy me".

VF-19S Blazer Valkyrie (opening missile pods on the legs!) and Tamashii exclusive Sound Booster for the Fire Valk. It looks like there's a special display base in there, as well.

I sure hope amiami or hlj will offer the sound-booster because that's pretty much the only reason I got the Fire Valkyrie. I know it's a "tamashi exclusive" but it I seem to recall hlj starting to offer exclusives this year (somebody tell me I'm right!).

They made a deal with Yamato to offer Yamato webshop exclusives, but I think that was more a case of "nobody is buying this crap from us, oh god, oh god, how can we sell this old inventory?" on Yamato's part.

I thought I was done with macross . the yamato 1/60 came and that for me is the perfect example of the Valk . I love my 1/55's ( i bought too many) But Like before I need more Valks. the price on these is better for me than the 1/60 version . I ended up ordering the Blazer why not.
