hello guys i have a question my friend told me to use Windex (Glass cleaner) to clean the figures just put some on the a microfiber cloth and clean it with it is this method safe ? I wouldn't. Even if it is the ammonia free type, the list of ingredients is not clear. It just says "cleaning agent" which could mean alcohol, chlorine, etc. So, I would just use Windex for my Detolf.

For gloves, I assume the microfiber ones are the way to go for handling chogokin.
As for the other stuff - what is absolutely necessary for long term maintenance? I would rather not have to dump them into a vat of chemicals to preserve them. And the rubber issue? Please explain this. I'm getting SOC, SRC, and fewture. If I do nothing does this mean they will be detiorating in time?

All plastics will eventually deteriorate. It's the nature of the substance. But it will outlast you and probably your grandkids. The exception is rubber. Certain types of soft rubber or vinyl parts. Plastic is cured, which essentially means it is fully outgassed. All of the liquids that make it up have baked off. Softer plastic and rubbers have a higher liquid or emulsifier content still within them that keeps them pliable. But over time that will eventually outgas and vaporize off making the soft part ever more brittle. Depending on the plastic or rubber quality this can take decades or longer, or it can be very fast. (You ever see a toy with that brown goo on it or oozing out of it? Yeah that is improperly cured or mixed plastic.)
You can keep rubber parts fresh with certain moistening products such as the above shown pflegi stuff. Armour All is a similar concept designed for automotive plastics.
The main points where you can see a deterioration risk in some Chogokin is mostly in the tank treads or rubber tires. Very rarely in older soft rubber hands. Eventually over many years the treads in your Ideon or Voltes V or Combatler V etc will dry out and crack. Actually moving them every now and then to prevent them hardening in that single narrow shape will also help extend their life. The only SOC that I can think of that has a rubber part that is a core structural element is Battle Robo J. For some reason the neck is a soft rubber on that one.

Ok, so it sounds like most SOC, SRC do not have rubber. Maz, grendy, etc. So with these, just keep out of direct sunlight and display well and they should last a long time without issue, correct?

They don't have a lot of rubber. Some will have a little bit of softer vinyls, such as Aphrodite A's head and Venus A's hair. But even those should last a long time. They are a quality PVC. As I said the only parts that really are worrying in the not too longish term are the rubber tank treads, which by nature dry out and crack, rubber wheels, which similarly will eventually split (Just look at any old G1 Transformers.) and that neck on Battle Robo J. Edit: I should qualify, that list is of the SOC's that I know. There are a number that I don't have such as the EVA's that may or may not have problem parts.

Another thing to do when storing your treads, is to use McGwires leather conditione, spread a coat on and put it soaked in a sandwich bag. That'll keep them supple and soft while storing. Leather conditioner works very well and it only needs to by applied once to twice a year. Both my Godaikin Voltes and Combattra treads still look new from keeping them up this way.

is it advisable to treat SRCs with Future / Pledge Wipe & Shine even if they are (almost) brand new?

Hey guys, i got a question.. can rubber deteriorate from the inside out? i have the mospeada from sentinel and i am wondering if this may pose a probkem. As a collector of hot toys yes, watching my collection desintegrarte from inside out is nothing we can do, you need de humidifiers in your cabinets if exposed to the elements and a good wipe down with microfibers and a soft brush to prevent the paint from scratching. You can prolong the rubber by at least using leather protectors but at the end of the day nothing lasts forever, just enjoy it while it lasts...

I have been looking into getting dehumidifiers,u are totally correct about just enjoying them for as long as they hold up....thank you
