Haven't been here in along time. So I gather that this hasn't been released yet? any price point? Stated release dates are between February 2014 and April 2014, depending where you shop. The price point is between $224.99 - $249.99. EDIT: Just checked amiami and they have a tentative release date of June 2014. If every retailer has an even numbered month for release date, I'm sure someone else out there has this slated for August 2014. lol

Earlier today in Episode 5 of Let's Voltron: The Official Voltron Podcast, hosts Marc Morrell and Jeremy Corray and recurring guest Michael French interviewed George Sohn of Toynami, who spoke about the upcoming Lion Voltron release, plus other possible Voltron merchandise. theorange.fm/letsvoltronnotes

I'm listening to the voltron pod cast now. From the show notes it seems that toyanami just wants us to buy all these re molds with added gimmicks with the hope we may get a new nice mold someday. I love voltron but hate the idea of Toynami getting the lic. and milking the mold. Almost as bad as what they are doing with the shogun warrior brand. I watch futurama and wouldn't mind a bender figure, but under shogun warrior line?!

so basically this is the same exact thing as previous releases, but with a lighting eyes feature and weapons/base they should have released on previous releases. Sigh, not to be over the top but it really breaks my heart that wep and cm didnt wanna give bandai the license(especially when the prototype was avaliable at comiccon apparently to be shown). Im sorry but better molded parts(which probably are the exact same mold as before, but these guys will tell you anything just to sell),lighting eyes and weapons/base arent enough for me on this release. I wanna see the review of this figure to see if anything is different. But just seeing what could of been instead of what we are getting is sorta depressing. With bandai not getting the licenses, i think honestly all hope is lost for a soc golion smh. Not to sound like a prick or anything, but i sometimes wonder if wep and cm deliberately didnt want bandai to have the license for some weird reason. I guess the real ultimate golion figure will always be the popy. Instead of this, ill be happy searching for an matchbox/bandai godaikin/popy golion.

I just wish 10 years latter we'd get something new, upgraded/updated. ( as I still debate buying like a good little fanboy ) The 30th seems to be selling so from a business pov wtf do I know. As George says in the pod cast they basically had all these new gimmicks (lights weapons and base) already designed and close to production. Ahh

I own the all-plastic, non-metallically painted version that I bought for $60. I like it a lot. Not spending $240 or so on a rehash. I just don't have that kind of money to throw around.

I thought the podcast was interesting and informative. However, it is really too bad that George appeared to receive an early proto-type of the MP Vehicle Voltron. As we know, it was re-tooled, released & much improved. I personally own a solid/clean version 2 and I think George would have better appreciated the improved version. As it stands, he basically trashed it and it is difficult for me not to think that what he said is more of a reaction to the fact that his fellow toy designers beat him to the punch whether it was authorized or not. I also find it funny that he dislikes MP Vehicle Voltron so much that he will never own one...
He states he would love to do a Vehicle Voltron and I would like to see how he could truly make a superior/masterpiece version to what Miracle produced. I admit that Miracle's version is not without its own flaws, but I think MP did a solid first effort for a really complex and complicated design. I own the 20th anniversary Lion Voltron and yes it has its pluses, but there are definitely flaws. A few flaw examples(ok, more than a few);
1) The chintzy way black lion's legs attach to blue/yellow lions & how they feel like they will fall off at any moment (and mine have unless I am careful)
2) The not very well thought out shoulder wells for folding black lion's legs inside his body (very difficult to get the covers to close, if at all)
3) The lack of articulation
4) The fact he doesn't stand very good
5) The crappy sprue break marks on every single vac-metal leg joint
6) The out of scale sword
7) And what is with the shield???
I don't see the value either of buying this upgraded 20th anniversary mold. The stand, lights, sounds and lion weapons make this difficult to justify a $100 increase in price. I know they came late to the game for the 30th anniversary according to the podcast, but this seems nothing more than an opportunity to milk a bunch of molds that were already produced. They say they are going to gauge the popularity of this edition to determine future realeases. But honestly, after people drop $224-$250 to buy this, are they going to keep spending that kind of cash for similar products?
Break the mold George and do something truly SOC level with Voltron, lion or vehicle....but this is Toynami and not Bandai. So, it will most likely not happen...ever.

I can see Toynami buying Miracle's design, tweaking it a bit, and then selling it themselves, but I can't see them even attempting an all-new design.

I've had the Lion Voltron for a few weeks now... glad I got the plastic version (with metallic color finish on the lion bodies). The toy is everything I've been reading about for years. The articulation is VERY limited compared to modern toys but since I don't have metal on mine, it can hold poses and is easy to handle. If I had the metal version I would hate the thing; got this one at a good price and feel satisfied. Not worth what Toynami wants for their reworked version.
I would love a plastic version of the MP VV. It would become my favourite toy.

I'd prefer an all-plastic version of VV as well.

Wait.. wait... ok, I needed a few seconds to swallow the vomit in my throat. What a totally propagandized show to the Toynami brand. lol Everything is buttered up and almost censored in praising about their grand accomplishment on the 20th Anniversary Masterpiece Voltron. Hello, the design wasn't that great to begin with. It's just a modernized rip off of the original Popy Golion design with absolutely no new re-engineering. I also love how they completely discard demand for any Vehicle Voltron products, indicating that it wouldn't be a smart business investment. Again, these guys know nothing about the true legacy of these classic characters and are just puppets speaking from WEP's control. Yes, I will be getting the 30th Anniversary MP Voltron as I missed out on the 20th and 25th releases. And yes, I'm still super bitter that the license did not go to Bandai Japan. But it just boggles me how WEP and Toynami's viewpoints are so ignorant on the consumer market. I also visited the Voltron forums and a vast majority (not all, but most) are completely ignorant of what Golion was. lol Wow.

I would be on board to sell my 20th anniversary edition and pick up the 30th anniversary edition if they at least would have done a re-paint of the lion limbs and made them white vs. sticking with the vac-metal. This would at least have visually separated the look of the 30th from the 20th when you set them side by side. In my mind, even though this "masterpiece" is just a modernized version of the original Popy and Matchbox 80's toys, it would look closer to the animated look of the cartoon utilizing white.
The vac-metal is not the right application on this toy, due to the very fact the legs are handled the most in the transformation and vac-metal is prone to fingerprinting and etching from oils in our skin. I have to wipe the lion legs off with a rag everytime I handle it so I don't damage the finish...
The Blazing Sword Voltron from SDCC '11 looks more like the original cartoon with the white treatment on the limbs, why couldn't they have at least made that change? Laziness...pure and simple.

Also...can we expect to get the same molds of the Robotech line to celebrate their 30th anniversary next year as well? I am predicting yes! Great job Toynami!!! Way to rip-off the fan base with old molds and higher pricing!!!

I also visited the Voltron forums and a vast majority (not all, but most) are completely ignorant of what Golion was. lol Wow. It's difficult to make any generalizations about the members of the Voltron forums (of which I'm a member -- "Dudley Drule Right"), since the Voltron forums aren't one-tenth as active as Robot Japan's forums are. As for Voltron fans being ignorant of its GoLion and Dairugger origins, most Voltron fans with whom I've interacted are aware of the show's origins.

I'm eager to see the unboxing video they discussed on the podcast. I wonder if it will come in a storybook style box like the 20th or a standard box.

Yea man I hear ya, listing to the pod cast it just made me realize that there is nothing new with the 30th. Just some things they left out of the 20th. They said they got the lic and 4 weeks latter introduced the 30th. Seems this was just the quickest easiest and cheapest way to get a product to market. I said I was debating getting the 30th but the pod cast has me leaning the other way now. IMHO they know what fans want but making $ is all they want. Sad but reality. Making new mold and designing new toys cost $ and time. Btw votron forums are cool. I haven't spent time there in a while but before I found my way here I did and most members are good people who either know about voltron/golion or are eager to learn.

The Voltron forums are fun when they're active. They've been like a ghost town lately though.

I hope they beef up the plastic of the black lion's rear legs...Ive seen tons of MP Voltrons with broken legs. Those skinny plastic legs cannot sustain a good topple with all that metal weight on them...instant snap and pretty much impossible to repair.
I have no choice, but to buy this new version as its my favorite robot and I will buy up everything made lol. Bandai has some 'splaining to do come this Toy Fair
