The value of GX-03 had tanked way before release of GX-50 just so you know. But we get the point.

Well I just mentioned the masterpiece Starscream and Optimus because those weren't just repaints or extra accessories, those were remolds. Ninjahandz mentioned those two, so that was what I was responding to.
As for this Voltron release, I'm just a Voltron sleeper and I can't seem to have enough of these so I, the wrong guy to talk to.

I can see it from both sides, it's good for those that never bought it a chance to get one or just diehard Voltron fans to get another version but it also sucks for those that got screwed paying the stupid secondary market prices for a figure that was initially priced at around $150, dropped to $100 when I bought mine then jumped sky high to have a "improved" version come out albeit about 8 years later.

I understand how and why bros who have the original would be upset. Vent and vote with your dollar. Be strong and wait for the inevitable "new" improved version.
I'm just mad because all this time I thought it was going to be Bandai SOC Golion...and like some of us here, I thought Voltron FINALLY would get a proper treatment. I have a ZERO interest in this mold. I can't believe after all the hush hush, secrecy and BS hints, it's a THIRD iteration of same old TOYNAMI mold....
Utter disappoinment for me..

I guess all the hints we got of Bandai getting the Golion/Voltron license is pretty much not true unless this is one last hurrah from Toynami before another company takes over.

So you'd be happy with never getting a new toy/mold and only getting improved versions of toys you already have? Do we even know if they improved anything besides adding lights? And maybe adding a stand that was also designed 8 years ago Actually, I said the complete oposite. I don't mind new toys. What I don't agree with is rehasing the same toy with just a few mods or extra items. This isn't rocket science, what part exactly do you not understand about this? You paid for a Voltron $300 and now they are releasing the same figure with a base, lights and who knows what else for $300. Meaning you are either stock with the figure minus the extra parts or you have to shell out $600 This is simple, how come you guys can't grasp such a simple concept? Nobody likes getting short changed in a deal. If you buy a car, you don't want to see the company selling the EXACT same car with free GPS and free leather seats for the exact same price you paid 2 months later. Ninja ,I think your confused. re scan the thread. I think your confused with who said what and who quoted who. Even a rocket sciencestis like you can mis understand

Well, at least my near-mint Godaikin Machine Man will remain that much more limited. I see no plan to revamp him, Bioman, Sun Vulcan, and Dynaman any time soon. I have to agree, that if they're going to release this again, do a full Golion/Lionbot version with all the weapons, including shooting missile launchers. Heck trade the amount of plastic of the stupid display base and key for gimmicks and weapons. Give us a real fun Voltron/Golion if your gonna do it again, right?

If they don't beef up the wings and add rocket punch, two things that I think would be relatively easy to do, they've missed more then I already think they did. Of course their not going to beef up the body because if they did that they'd just make a new mold, like I want!!!! sh*t, I'd be happy with a voltron force mold.

Money-wise... I tend to look at these things like cars... Once driven off the lot, the value starts to drop.
Toys are a joy, not an investment opportunity. I would love for them to retain value, but not happening. Those days are really gone.
In any case, has it been determined if this 30th Anni Voltron is:
1) Die-cast or plastic? 2) Price ? I'm figuring around $200 to $300... Not because of worth, but because they can do it. 3) Release date?
Anyone hitting the SDCC,please let us know.

The way Josh and Adam explained it on the show was that Bandai was pretty much set to make the SOC announcement and Toynami swooped in for the N.A. license. They'd known about the Toynami agreement for a few weeks but couldn't say anything and are as disappointed as the rest of us. It almost sounded like Bandai still could possibly get the Asian license?

I'm not sure if the price will necessarily be that expensive... If you consider that they made a whopping 15,000 units of the MPC, which is a massive number for a collectible figure outside of Transformers, there is no way they could have sold all of those if the price had even been another $100 higher. I guess what I'm saying is that it depends on what Toynami thinks this figure is going to do. Are they releasing another Voltron to pull in the masses, or do they figure they've burned through the bigger market and now they are going to see how much of the truly hardcore collectors will pony up. If they are going for bulk it will less than $200, if they are going for high end/hardcore collectors only, it will be above $200.

(I couldn't spend the money for this one.) I see the 30th anni figure as something for the hardcore. Just cause of the base and key (and heck, packaged as 30th anniv). If they wanted to push to the masses, it wouldn't include all of that.

Not sure what toys you're referring to but there are many that not only retain value but increase quite a bit...and yes, they can be an investment.

If this was the top secret "big news" that Adam and Josh could not speak about earlier in the year on CDX that many alluded to being a potential Voltron release, you have seriously got to be kidding me. SMH I can assure you it wasnt. The Toynami Voltron was a surprise. At least to me. The last thing we knew Toynami was making was the Shogun Warriors based on original designs. What CDX was alluding to had nothing to do with Toynami.

Old 70 / 80s toys - POPY, CHOGOKINs, were great investment opportunities...
But today, most toys are worth what you paid (at time of release). Make a list of SOCs - GX-01, GX-44S, GX-59, GX-18 to 20 - I'm just picking popular models that most love... These sell at what $20 more than release? Let's talk the DX Mazinger - No price movement on that guy.
As an investment, (just like Comics) toys are risky... Some go up and others go down - It's never a sure thing. The days when you bought 2 or 3 in hope that it would go up 2x are gone. Buy an SOC and expect to double your money in 2 or 3 years doesn't happen. The 20th Voltron MIB today sells at $180 on eBay... Yes, in the past year, some have sold for $400 (insane buyers), but most sell at $180. A 10 year investment to 2x your money is very LONG TERM with no guarantee.
If you take an avg collection - let's say over the last 6 years, cost was $10k. Then let's sell everything on year 7 - You'll probably get back 85% of your investment... Things go up and down. And seller's fees will eat up the rest. I don't plan on retiring on this. My money would to better in a 401k. Hence - buy to ENJOY...
