a quote from the FB page so its all plastic but 18 inch, hmmmmm why i see the problems with 25th anniversary Voltron in this one i like how they put an excuse for the lack of metal, its all plastic so it can have alot of poses nice one toynami I think I might be the only one in this thread who is super glad Toynami opted to skip out on die-cast on this piece. For me, a robot toy that is dominantly die-cast does not allow it to have more dynamic posing. But for a toy that is a towering 18" tall and would be die-cast would be the following: 1) a heavy, stationary, big brick 2) clunky/topple over easily 3) limited poseability 4) more expensive than what it will be 5) excessive die cast parts are more at risk for paint chipping, scratching if parts collide or are mishandled/mistranformed. Die-cast is cool and works for smaller scale robots like the SRC and even 8-9" SOC's. But for something this big, it wouldn't execute well. I'm glad they went with ABS, but would've been more excited had they gone with POM. The things I'm most concerned about with this piece are: 1) Will there be strong ratcheting joints? Please Toynami, incorporate ratcheting joints. Take notes from companies like FansProject, Mastermind Creations, Warbotron etc. 2) Awaiting how the paint apps will look like on the final version 3) What accessories will be included?

I still like this Voltron; however, since this is 100% plastic, I recommend moving this thread to the appropriate section of this forum.

I'm not 'super glad' about the missing diecast...there are ways to include it judiciously (in the chest, in the joints) without making it a heavy, floppy mess (I'm thinking of the hips on Toynami's first Voltron venture). That said, I do understand and can accept the lack of metal on a big figure, assuming that mrclean's points above are addressed adequately. If they are, then it may turn out well. This being Toynami, though, I'm always skeptical about the quality. Hopefully, the company proves me wrong.

In combined form, the lion heads has struck me as a bit slim, like most said, but after looking at more pics, the heads look really correct on the lions. Just in comparison to the old toys, those had oversized goofy heads, especially on Red & Green.
It's partly that the folded leg bulk and chest of the folded up Blue and Yellow lions sticks out enough in the gray prototype to make the foot-heads look slim.

Just saw the CDX video. Really liking this Voltron. Really nice sculpt. This is a nice modernization of the classic Voltron toy. There is just something about the proportions that is just right. The size of the lions heads, the thickness of the thighs and the detailing is just the way I like it. It fits my aesthetic likings to a T. Hoping it isn't too expensive since it going to be all plastic. Not liking the 18 inch size. I would like it if they scaled it down to the 12 inch size and add some die cast metal.

Also, since this is officially licensed, the colors, details, symbols, etc. can all be made just right, if they put the effort in to do so.

Awww. So no diecast? Automatic pass then, already have an oversized plastic version with pilots from Mattel. Gold

I remember a lot of disapproval comments about the MT Golion when it was still in the prototype stage by many of us here including myself, in which ultimately many of us ended up buying it and liking it in the end. Just my 2 cents but it will be interesting to see how many of you who are currently uninterested in this will end up buying one. Not to sound facetious or anything, but this is going to be robot crack for many of you, whether you want to admit it or not. (We'll see the difference in your posts from page 2 vs page 50 of this thread.) And yes, I admit my own guilt too because I do this from time to time. We all do. I agree with Mr.Clean. The critics on here crucify Toynami for not doing anything and you crucify them when they do finally show something new in the Voltron line. The cop out comment I read in response is "we are passionate fans and care blah blah blah..." Don't you think the designers at Toynami haven't toyed with or concepted a design with hiding the lion legs etc...? Having removeable parts just adds more issues for loose joint connections etc... Or folding hideaway legs makes for a bulkier body cavity not to mention you still have to be able to assemble the parts on the line. You want an anime accurate Voltron, then you need an non-transforming version and that exists already with the SDCC '09 toy and that is a great figure but all plastic....oh no!

And if the timeline is kept true, you will have three versions of Golion/Voltron released in a span of a year. I think that is impressive in and of itself.
I own the 20th anniversary edition and when I saw this, I told my wife that Xmas shopping will be easy for her this year...
And I meant the SDCC '11 Voltron I mentioned earlier not '09...

I'm not crucifying Toynami for doing something. I'm crucifying them for their track record for making sh*tty cheap toys. If a car company made a cheap car that fell apart after 5 thousand miles would you keep buying them or supporting them?

wow that actually looks a lot better than expected! A lot closer to the original than I had previously thought. I may have second thoughts on skipping this one....
