I guess Toynami is not going to let CMs take all the cake. The cyclone looks pretty good...
When is it supposed to be released?

Yeah, that Toynami Beta does look pretty good (as does the Cyclone). However, they'd better step up ten notches for QC if they expect me to purchase another Toynami product again.

Maybe a miracle like the Toynami Voltron will happen again. Seems like they are really serious about the Mospeada stuff now.

Well, all I can say is, if this is a joint-project (pun intended) with Aoshima in that it's a full partnership and Aoshima will have some degree of input into the design and workmanship that goes into the products, then there's hope for the Beta yet. I mean a good hope too. It doesn't have to be playable or anything, but it'll probably look real good when we see the final painted release product. Which in turn will finally sell me on getting an Alpha/Legios.

so does anyone know whether the beta treads will be able to hook on to the MPC Toynami Alphas seeming as both of them are most identical? Here's hoping they will for my sake

It looks like Toynami got smart and decided to sell there products through the Japanese market so we'd all think it would be better. ;D

Here's frickin' link in case you missed it!

Ben, I purposely filter out all the posts that you put up each and every time I visit RJ. In fact, I make it a rule to not read any of your posts. Except the one I quoted, of course. Actually, I had missed that bit of info. Thanks for the clarification.

i've been following you, man. i've been following the Aoshima release news as it comes down the pike. My concerns when comparing the Toynami and this new version: 1 - my big problem with this figure was the chest and knee joints, as they were super floppy, and i have heard nothing on this being improved on the newer release. This is what in the end made me sell this toy- the diecast chest was too heavy and would weigh the telescoping waist down, and the kneecaps were weak when in robot mode. So, you'd have him on your shelf, and within a few hours he would either fall over or be shrunked into "midget-mode" when the chest folded back in and the kneee joints gave in. The prototypes look like they didnt fix this at all. 2 - in Robot mode the cockpit/nose couldn't completely fold into proper position due to a fragile back panel. this panel is easily broken, and to make it worse the panel *looks* like it can fold up and down to allow proper cockpit position. but it doesnt so when you apply even the slightest of force it cracks completely off. and Robot mode looks like its not properly transformed unless this panel is removed/broken. this was a big bummer. 3- the paint was trash and would rub off the metal pieces with the slightest contact. The areas where the rub was the worst looks like its protected by the new undermissile launchers in robot mode, and i can totally see Aoshima fixing this issue. But still, if you're a c-10 MIB type of guy (i do not mind a little "battle damage" myself) you should really think about this. 4- scale - Toynami's was listed as 1/55 if i remember right. These are listed as 1/48. This would make the pilot the same size (roughly) as the Yamato Valks. I have not heard of a size increase on this piece so whats the dealy o?? i am hopefull that Aoshima will fix these issues, but i don't know, i canceled my preorder for the Aoshimas. Waiting for CMs version. again, i *highly* advise that if you are even *considering* getting the Aoshimas or CMs, or you are not happy with your Toynami Alphas in even the slightest way, that you dump those Toynami Alphas on eBay right now. Right now on average they are selling for double the original retail price, so you can get your hard earned cash plus some extra $$ to pay for the Aoshimas or CMs. I guarentee that when the Aoshimas hit, the Toynami price will drop from roughly $125-150+ each to $40 or less each, and you will have a hard time getting rid of the Toynamis from then on. dunno about how you will do but i got $200+ for my MISB Scott Alpha, and $150+ for my opened and heavily worn/damaged Alpha- I paid around $90 for both of them when they were on clearance at retail.

I think the whole 1/55 vs 1/48 scale was so Toynami could have some kind of consistent scale with their 1/55 Veritechs but most experts agree that the scale was closer too 1/48.
What get's me is that BOTH Aoshima/Toynami and CM both list their figures at 1/48 but there's a whopping 4cm difference in height from one figure too another !?!

I would LOVE to believe the Alpha is a 1/48 - the bigger scale the better because in continuity, the Alpha was smaller than the Valkyrie. So it would make sense that the Legios turns out to be a bit smaller than the Yammie 1/48... I prefer going by the cockpits... if the pilot figure looks be about an inch tall, I'd say that's a good match for 1/48.
