Hi all, I dont think it is a good idea if you are coming to Singapore specially for toys hunting, not a good place, unless you have other purpose coming to Singapore and dont mind dropping by a few toy shops just to kill your extra time. Prices usually are super inflated and yet what you get to see are the usual stuff. I have long heard of urban legends that thailand is the place to go to hunt for japanese vintages. The toy shop owners goes to thailand to hunt for vintages for their own collections. any contributors from Thailand?

Thought I'd update NYC since it's out of date Toy Tokyo has Japanese collectors toys, lots of modern collectors kaiju vinyl and some vintage Love Saves the Day the shop closed like 2008? years ago. Don't know what the Broome St address mentioned is, maybe their office? Image Anime has new Anime related toys and kits Zakka moved to DUMBO, Brooklyn 5 years ago 155 Plymouth St, their website, (not working URL on the list here) www.zakkacorp.com . They have an interesting selection of new Japanese toys with a Kaiju emphasis and Japanese books about toys. The owner has a sizable vintage vinyl toy collection literally behind a chain link fence which is sort of for sale, I'm sure you can ask the staff for details and to unlock and look closer. Village Comics has been closed for maybe a decade. Forbidden Planet recently moved to the same block (they had me scared for a moment when their old spot was shuttered) 832 Broadway, new URL www.fpnyc.com/ they have figures and new Japanese toys St Marks Comics 11 St. Mark's Place, New York, N.Y. 10003 (212) 598-9439 www.stmarkscomics.com some Vintage and new toys There is a Kidrobot shop, 118 Prince Street 212.966.6688 www.kidrobot.com they pretty much just have collectors vinyl toys

Where are the toy stores in Tokyo again? Will be there for a few days in a couple months. The two main locations are the area of Akihabara and the Nakano Broadway mall in Nakano. Akihabara in general has new toys as well as impressive electronics retailers who 7 story Mandarake with vintage toys in the north west side of the district. There is a nice street level vintage place at the north end of the main strip but I walked by 4 different days over a week in 2012 and they were never open. Nakano Broadway has little shops, some are independent some are owned by Mandarake and frequently specialize in specialty of toys with lots of vintage. A number of shops are all rented showcases. You can save footwork and ignore the basement. Some warm up on the street level. don't miss the 2nd floor since the escalator bypasses it and it's easy to miss. 3rd floor has the most on-topic shops. Also I think the top floor 4th? doesn't have much though there is a futuristic gallery-like Mandarake up there worth a visit. Mandarake also has a big store in the sub sub basement of Beams in Shibuya but not as serious a toy section as the other mentioned branches, but still very impressive in comparison to other stores, especially since it's one huge cave space. There is the CNN Go article www.cnngo.com/tokyo/shop/tokyo-toy-story-636762 Jyarinco is a bit of a trip get to and hunt to find but do have impressive vintage. On a second floor down a side street. Gojira-ya is a second floor shop with vintage toys and a street level bar nearby. Initially I mistook the bar for the shop. Both are under the train tracks on the south of the station. Toy Cats (basement on a side steet but not far from the station) is like a showcase place for vintage. Kiddy Land is in every guidebook and is on super trendy Omotesando but I'd consider it family, girlfriend and tourist friendly. Same situation with the less mentioned Hakuhinkan Toy Park at the extreme south of the Ginza (Shinbashi). I stumbled on a whole large floor of just Gundam at one of the big electronics retailers in Ikebukuro. Joshin, another big electronics retailer has a whole Gundam store in Osaka's Den Den Town for what it's worth. Some of the the big electronics shops have toys (Yodobashi) others don't Den Den Town is Osaka's version of Akihabara. It's marked as Nipponbashi on maps and east of Namba. I've not stumbled on much vintage other than a Mandarake. The huge full city block Yodabashi is far across town near Umeda station.

Where are the toy stores in Tokyo again? Will be there for a few days in a couple months. Did you already go? If not, go to Akihabara and look for Sega City (street is Chuo Dori). When you see Sega City turn right. Lots of stuff all along those walls. Liberty is pretty good. Most of the places are on the 4th floor so you have to ask around a little. Liberty seems to have some good stuff once in a while too. I think you can get like toy collector mags and check the adverts in there too. I should make a custom google map using the street view thing.

Yup I went towards the end of last year. Only had time to visit Nakano and Akibahara but did score some finds. I wish I had spent more time but alas.
Thanks for the info. Hopefully I will get to go soon again. There looks to be some promising stores you highlighted.

just a a note to members who visit the Markham area in Ontario, Canada. 'Fantasy Box' at First Markham place has closed. I made a visit to Toys2 today and saw that they are no longer in business. They use to be just around the corner from where Toys2 is.
