wow - thanks for clarifying (and let this be a lesson to others: this is why you use a pack of cigarettes to show scale when you photograph something.) Or a Yotsuba figure!

Oh my God! That is awesome! ;D Thanks for the news. So it is a complete toy, not a model-kit, right? Very exciting to see this happen.... have been waiting this for years like most of the MGS fans.

DAAAAW! Lookitdecutekittyyyy!!! ;D
Yep... by action figures standards, I guess this would certainly qualify as "big". Crossing my fingers for a price tag similar their WWR 12" line. As cool as that Rex looks, I don't know if I'd get myself to shell out over $300 for it. Hopefully, since this is a much bigger license, they're going to go for a larger production run and aim for more profits in the long run instead of jacking up the price on a limited run.

I just picked up a 3A WW2 Bramble. It is very nice. Nice detail, great paint apps and the articulated fingers are brilliant for a vinyl figure.
This is indeed on my Want list.

Damn this bad boy is big! Sign me up for the waiting list.
Does 3A incorporate any electronics in their releases? I would really love for Rex to have some sort of light-up laser gimmick in the mouth.

They usually don't, but if what I've read on 3A's boards is true they will on this one. Apparently, at the show the first pictures up here were taken, they used regular lightbulbs in their prototype. That caused a lot of heat and they didn't last long. The final product, if it features any lighting gimmick, will use LEDs.

The thing about their figures is they are part of the "Urban Vinyl" genera so they are roto casted. Think vinyl jumbos, but with lots of detail instead of less detail than the metal counterparts. I need to read more, but I am not sure what if Rex will be roto cast or something else. According to Ashley on the 3A forums, Rex will be 100% ABS, no Vinyl.

I imagine it will be even more detailed then.

Some quotes from Ashley Wood originaly posted on ThreeA's board : "we making the machines. REX and RAY... for now"
"that proto wasnt nothing compared to where we are, we rebuilt them both from scratch. they will come out this year, but as we do not control the IP, we cannot confirm any date, except this year." Edit: Typo in Ashley Wood's name.

We're running out of "this year." Has anyone heard anything new about this?

I check the threea forums, the threea production blog, and ashley wood's own blog literally every day so that I don't miss this, and there's been nothing, sadly.

An excerpt from the 3AVOX newsletter that explains these pictures : The wait is nearly over, soon we will be offering Metal Gear REX, from the epic game series METAL GEAR SOLID. It goes without saying we are very proud to work with Team Kojima and Konami to bring a large size REX toy to the world! Check out some photos of the prototype ( sans legs, due to a typhoon yesterday, a fully made up REX wasn't available for shots ), the full reveal is coming, with all the details! And don't forget , Metal Gear RAY is not far behind!
Solid Snake: "I had heard that the Metal Gear project was scrapped." Donald Anderson: "On the contrary, it's grown into a huge joint project between ArmsTech and [DARPA]. We were going to use this exercise as raw data and then proceed to mass production."
