Run time of 59 minutes? Sheesh... It's just funny that I have only recently become accustomed to seeing boxed sets get bigger and the prices get smaller for North American releases (don't kid yourselves, the industry is barely staying alive, seriously, after the big guns like ADV-Films declared bankruptcy last year). And Bandai-Entertainment has been rereleasing their old catalog in new "collection" sets... It's quite jarring to see this new release get the Japanese-style treatment (a couple of eps per disc) abroad. Does anybody else find this extremely weird?

If this were being released by a stateside distributor, then yes I would be shocked. But this is more of a Japanese import. It's just that this particular import is going to be available here (at the sametime as in Japan). It's also a direct-to-video release (aka. OAV) so it tends to have a higher price and lower episode count. But it should feature higher production values than the standard TV anime fare. I can't wait to see this so I'm more than willing to shell out a few extra bucks, if it means getting it at the sametime as the folks in Japan. By buying it at Amazon.com, it's a bit cheaper than ordering it directly from Japan.

Yeah, I just read the official site to get up to speed. Now everything makes a lot more sense (that it's an OVA and this is just the first episode of the mini-series). It'll be interesting to see if it sells. There's a decently healthy OVA industry in North America (otherwise we wouldn't see the likes of Gotham Knight, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Public Enemies, etc). But those were stand-alone movies and weren't more expensive than an average disc. I'm curious to see if Amazon will be able to move a lot of units at a typical Japanese price-point (Japanese disc being usually about 25% more expensive than elsewhere).
I know I'll probably buy into this (just because I'm a long-time Gundam junkie).

Very disappointing on the price. $44 for 1 episode (even though its a long one). I think its a 6 part series, so its a $264 collection. Sigh... I think I'll rely on youtube for now, until they have the entire collection box set at a cheaper price. So sad. I was all ready to buy this series (hoping $19.99 a pop or less). Instead, we get another 'Gunbuster 2' prank.

Trailer is awesome. Loving the new song by Chiaki Kuriyama (Exte, Kill Bill vol. 1) Had no idea she was a singer too. If this were being released by a stateside distributor, then yes I would be shocked. But this is more of a Japanese import. So even though the price is higher than a US ver BR release we still get it the same time as Japan. I remember the FSS OVA did the same thing before ADV jumped in and licensed it. I believe GITS 2.0 Japan BR also has Eng subs. Cool w/me! Either way I'm on board. Especially if I can score this a bit cheaper via Amazon. Can't wait to throw this in my PS3 after it comes out.

OK, I'm sold. But damn, sometimes being Canadian sucks... Amazon.com exclusive? *sigh* I don't get the usual free shipping so that's an additional $10 or so... At least the import fee Amazon.com charges up front to international customers means no nasty surprises when it crosses the border to me. This is going to be one expensive OVA to support after the sixth and final disc comes out.

Just got an email from Amazon and looks like there's a sale on the Bluray Unicorn. $34.99!! www.amazon.com/dp/B00346UX6I/ref=pe_58030_14279050_pe_vfe_d1I was already gonna take them up on it. Glad I waited a bit. Hopefully takes some of the sting off of those who're worried about the price. If it's still to much, I s'pose there's always HK dvd's, torrents or the 'tube!

Thankfully Amazon.com offers a pre-order pricing protection on this. Even tho I placed my order before the deal, I should still get the lower $34.99 price.
I wonder if I should cancel my order and reorder it, though in case the price goes back up... (but I've never seen that happen before...) Is the sale price for a limited time, according to your email message?

It might be safer to cancel and re-preorder again if possible. It's up to you though. I did notice Amazon has some damn good deals on other anime BR discs.

Ok. I give in... Thanks mechamasterj for the link by the way.
I was griping about the high price of the Blu-ray release. Even though I still think it is, after watching episode 1, it exceeded my expectation. Very well done intro episode, with good tension build up. And they managed to breath in some interesting personality to the new kid that it doesn't feel generic, even though there are too many previous attempts of 'young kid getting the robot'. This one is well played. Animation is very nice, rivaling the best OVA Gundam animations, and the music works great too. Jegans never looked so good. Some emotional moments already, and its only Ep.1.
Heading to Amazon.com now...
