Got the email from Amiami and payment sent... I guess rather than a Christmas present this year, it'll be a New Years present (that I will get only after I get back to Ottawa).

Whoa...it's sold out at AmiAmi, Hobby Search, and almost at HLJ.

Just saw some pics from Macrossworld. I have to say I'm quite impressed and tempted by it....despite trying to steer clear of "DX" type toys and focusing on diecast. But being mostly PVC and me being fresh out of funds I'm gonna have to let this one go. Stupid nephews and nieces If I didn't have to give them $50 each for X-mas then I would have had more than enough to pull this off. As if that's not enough my mom completely cut my usual X-mas money for a stupid Mark Work Warehouse sweater. Its official...X-mas has lost its "magic" for me. It was much more magical when I was the "taker" rather than the "Giver".....It really sucks being a grown up

I was just thinking the opposite - my favorite part of christmas is giving presents to my niece and nephew... Whoa...it's sold out at AmiAmi, Hobby Search, and almost at HLJ. I shouldn't be concerned. Yamato probably kept their production run pretty close to pre-orders to avoid getting burned on overstock, especially as Graham has already mentioned that they're planning a second production run. The price probably would have been a fair bit lower if Yamato had done a larger production run to begin with, but it's not a risk they would have been willing to take (reasonable, really) in this economy with such a high dollar item.

I am waiting for my shipping from Amiami. I hope this SDF1 do well, then we might see a TV version. Already seen some people (from Toydailys site) doing pannel line on this baby, it looks so details. I might do the same. www.toysdaily.com/discuz/thread-802-3414-1.html (from Toydaily)

I am waiting too... the shipping notice arrived yesterday morning so the tracker is telling me my box from Amiami has left Japan by now and I imagine it flying across the ocean right about now. I will definitely panel-line this sucker. Seeing the pics from Graham convinces me it is in desperate need of some detail work... even if it is just a Gundam marker in the seems.

EMS tracking is telling me it's already in SFO customs.
There's a good chance it could be there tomorrow.
BTW....that panel lining is beautiful work.

I don't ,ind the actual design of the ship it's just colors that seem so drab and boring. I know it's suppose to be more realistic than the tv version but all those large areas of grey plastic make it look dull. Yamato could have at least added more paint aps like marker lights and more tampo printing just to break up all that grey. I know if I had this I would be breaking out the paints to add some much needed detail.

There's a second production run already planned which is good but it'll be just the same color. By the way does anyone know if the DYRL version of the Macross ever show up in tv colors in any of the shows? I'm not sure but I think it was shown in tv colors in Macross Plus.

nah, pretty sure it's a trick of the light... odd cell colouring. Macross Plus used the DYRL-design and it was all grey with no sign of reds (other than the odd details in the "chest") or blues... but as I was saying, it's all illuminated by the city lights below so who knows. For the most part it's generally accepted to be the DYRL design.

Yeah that's what I thought, I even watched the episode of Macross Frontier that had the SDF-4 Global in it and from what I can tell it has the muted colors too. Oh well I have to think about it, i know if I bought one I would be for sure breaking out the paints and be adding details like marker lights and stuff.

I have not added any robotech or Macross to my collection yet, this genre I really know little about.... I will say, after doing searches for the vintage items, the two which really caught my eye, was the Orguss Orgoid robot which goes for right at 200 usually, and the SDF-1 1/3000 scale. Plan to get one example of the forementioned here soon. I really like the old SDF-1 and this new ones detail is amazing. I like it becaues it reminds me of a cross between Dait 17 and Omega supreme, something about big robots which turn into battle stations and carriers. Seems like the sdf-1 (old or new), would be a great center piece to any collection, esp since I don't have a big Tet 28 deluxe.... I found an old custom painted sdf-1 on ebay, and it looks really good I think, missing all missiles and parts. Transforming custom paint items can be delicate as we all know, and I wouldn't transform often if I bid on that one for say, but I do like to change display from time to time, and this guy looks amazing in battle carrier mode IMO. I normally never buy anything incomplete, but I just don't think it would bother me as much with the SDF-1. Still displays great, are the little planes and missiles really that important part of the display? If so perhaps a brand new complete one is better option... What do you guys think, is that other SDF-1 for 700 all complete on ebay a good deal, seems a bit high, but it is kinda hard to find, esp complete with no broken parts in box? Also, I understand the SDF-1 came in all plastic and die-cast/plastic combo, is this correct, and if so I definitely want one which is made of both pvc and die-cast? I imagine the new one here is part die-cast....

Its bigger, likely better engineered, better detailed and less expensive...based on my previous experience with Yamato, it will likely be mostly plastic as opposed to diecast. On a side note, the Orgroids scaled at 1/42 by Takatoku would be an excellent addition to your stash. I have a couple of them and I'd have to say they're well worth it, though I think $200 is a it high, I got mine for about $100 off ebay a few years back.

Great info as always from you Lurker X...
By the way I have one of those plated Danguard Ace's on the way like yours, looking forward to it arriving....
On the SDf-1, I think your are right about going with the new one, I had already figured way cheaper than the vintage one, with more modern engineered design, and figured that was probably the best route to go....
On the Orguss, I will try and hold out an find one for closer to 100, thanks for the info....

In case anybody forgot, yes, Graham did eventually post his review on December 28: www.macrossworld.com/macross/toys/Yamato_SDF-1/SDF_1_review.htmIt's utterly insane how comprehensive the review is. But for my favourite part: about 10 seconds into his transformation video... the very first move he makes is to pull the "arms" outwards from ship mode and he explains the locking mechanism that automatically releases!! No floppy sagging arms in ship mode like last year's Macross Quarter by Bandai!! That's freaking awesome. In fact, in his entire video, Graham is holding the SDF1 in front of his chest. I'm completely stunned at how solid this thing is.

Grahm's review covers everything, great pics and video....
That shoulder locking feature is great, as the old ones obviously didn't lock, so I am sure after those joints loosened up, it was probably very hard to keep in proper position in battler cruiser mode. I like the fact that they actually learned something there from trial and error, and wish they would apply features like that more often....
Like Combattler gb-o3, it would have been a cool feature, if you had an interlocking bar if you will, to keep the legs side by side in tank mode, and all the Raideens out there could use a locking mec eh in bird mode. Maybe my OCD causes me to nick pick to much, but little things like that bug me. Don't know why, does not affect display most of the time, but just bugs me....
No doubt I will get the one in Grahm's review down the road, that is one cool robot....
