Looks like you can still get one around $500 on Mandarake or Yahoo Japan auction. Which is still a lot, to be honest. I swear I saw one not that long ago and it was below $400, so I didn't know price has gone up so much since.

What a JERK!! There are 2 SDF-1's 1/3000 for sale on Ebay for $735.95 (different seller name, but it's the same person). Both auctions have a counter-offer option. so I initially offered $575.00 and this a$$hat counters for $733.00, I re-counter for $600.00 and he counters for $728.00. WTF!!! I guess it is his right to do that, but what's the point in putting the counter offer feature in your auction ($600.00 is a lot of money for me)if you're not going to take offers seriously.
Anyone recommend other sources for me to check (HLJ, Angoloz and BBTS are out)??
Chris

Would help if you read a bit Japanese as they use Japanese for the search engine (マクロス 1/3000 or やまと 1/3000 is what you want to search). Also, they make it clear if the box has been re-taped (used/opened) or brand new. They are a huge second hand toy store in Japan with multiple stores in each major city. You can find some gems and hard to find stuff there.

i would be curioius if how & will Bandai would remake a SDF01.... Sure...it'll be another Tamashii Web Exclusive or something like that and given the Macross Frontier sales strategy. They'll make 10 and then release the preorder to AmiAmi, Hobby Search et al and will sell out in 0.001 nanoseconds. Grr.

That's great news. Not necessary cheap, but can't be too choosey when you missed the boat back then. Be very careful with the bridge and all the antennae not to snap them off by accident. Some of the tiny turrets may come off easy, which you can either glue on or just be mindful of them. Its a really great piece.

I have the build it yourself kit. I got it about a year ago. I opened the box and was very surprised at he amount of parts! I have set it aside for a vacation. It will probablly take me 2 weeks to put together. lol. The next question is this..Once I have it together, should I paint it or just go with the darker colors it is molded in?? What do you think?

It is very intimating to look at the size of this kit with the 100's of pieces. I'm no stranger to models building and have put together some pretty large builds, but this one is probablly the biggest.

WOW, that's a very impressive job. I can't wait to get mine!! I've seen enough pictures and video of this little masterpiece. I was sent a tracking number, but when try to use HK Post it tells me I have to sign up and it can take weeks to track a package. That's no help! Frustrated!

That looks GREAT! How long did it take you to build and where did you get the paint set?

About 6 months of working on it on and off. I got it from the yamato store through a proxy. Ran the risk of getting seized by customs but it got through just fine.

On the paint bottles, are there any specific colors or I.D. numbers? I would like to try and get a set of paints that would be as close to factory as possible.

Nope not really. Here is the japanese text for the name of the paint if it helps you search for it, YAMATO MTCカラー アソートセット
