My Renewal finally arrived. Good news is, the joints are indeed tighter! Mine has zero floppiness, pass the shake test. Pretty much all joints are tighter than my original. I can't say they went in and retooled them or not, and my old one can be looser due to wear from posing and being a 7 year-old toy. But it feels solid, and that is a big relief. Though the Riobot Shin Getter Dragon came out last year still got tighter joints. What I am surprised by, is the amount of paint improvement wasn't that significant. Like a 10-15% better on the figure overall when looking at it, but it goes to show that Sentinel actually did a very good job polishing the bare plastic on the initial release. If you look at my photo (a bit low quality), I bet you have a hard time telling which is old and which is the Renewal. I give you a hint, look at the shine on the head and the knee caps. I think it is the fact that people know it is bare plastic, and the stigma plays a bigger part in our heads that it being a lot inferior. But now that I have a fully painted Renewal side by side, you do see the difference, but only if you look at it closely. At a glance, you almost can't tell. And while the original has bare plastic, it is mainly in the reds, and not all reds, the gloss bright red, and the matte bright red. The burgundy is painted as far as I can tell, and all the whites, greys, gold, silvers are also painted on both as well. So rather than the impression of the original being unpainted, its more like 30%~ of it is unpainted. So when the Renewal improved on that 30%~ of red, it really is not that much on the grand scheme of things. But if you have to choose 1 out of the 2, of course the Renewal is better, even if it only looks 10-15% better in person. For the rest of the figure, most of the paint apps are identical, with the Renewal dark silver being a tad more shiny and with finer metallic flakes (the arm blades and the back knee joint are most obvious) Burgundy knee cap also particularly shiny on the Renewal. The rest are pretty much the same. One slight disappointment is the additional wing joint attachment part they gave. While it has a ball joint to add extra front to back articulation with the wings can now angled more for dynamic pose, it loses the swing up and down hinge from the original attachment (you cannot dock the wings looking folded down). They do include the original wing joint attachment you can swap in, but its an either-or option. You can't have both better articulation and folding down at the same time. And the new axe is indeed gigantic. The long rod is hollow metal, so while it is hard and won't flex/wiggle, make sure you don't snap it by accident, as it can still break because the hollow tube is quite thin. Didn't try to hold it with the figure, don't want to loosen the arms so fast. Maybe some other time. Overall, this is a great re-release. It sure improved on the joints, and the paint. Paint work is absolutely gorgeous. But the additional paint and extra accessories only adds little to what the original had offered years ago. So it really depends if you are a diehard Shin Getter fan, to rebuy this if you already have the original. But if you don't have original release, or really love this sculpt, this is still a very good one to get. It doesn't offer the amount of diecast, weight, size, and LEDs of the CCS. But what it offers is a better sculpt with no funky proportions, with still the best headsculpt of Shin Getter on the market IMHO. And its articulation is still hard to beat. Heck, CCS Toys needed to copy some of its design and engineering to make theirs. If this re-release still speaks to you, go get one while you still can. I wasn't joking when I said the articulation of this Riobot is hard to beat. Reposting some old fun yoga pics. Shin Getter 1 can scratch his back and kick his own butt LOL.

One small advantage I noticed with the Renewal red paint is that, it gives a more uniform sheen on the entire surface (assuming there was no dust or imperfections caught on the paint). When looking at both under brighter daylight, some areas of the bare plastic on the original shows minor wear and scuffs from both the plastic itself and me handling it through the years, or just very tiny hair swirls result from the factory polishing. With the new paint, the figure looks more coherent and much less of those tiny imperfections. The new paint is also shinier.
But when it comes to the head, especially the 2 red horns. Sentinel actually differentiate some panels being gloss plastic (the tips), and some in matte plastic finish. That was a very nice touch. In the Renewal however, they forgo that detail, and just painted the whole head glossy red.

I have the old release and to me this remains the best Shin getter out there (articulation and sculpt)

Today, I was trying to explain to someone on facebook on what was the issue that caused so many complaints about this Shin Getter's waist dislocating at the waist (due to human error, not following the warning in the instruction booklet twisting the wrong waist joint). So I figured might as well posting it here, in case newcomer getting the Renewal, which works exactly the same. Just that the Renewal changed the joint design and added a screw, so that problematic half socket will no longer pop out. Here is a snip of the instruction section from 7 years ago. When posing the waist of Shin Getter and you want to get some twist action on the waist, twist horizonally on the entire red chest where it meets the white belly. It is a ball/socket joint inside that let you swivel almost 360 degree if you so desire. But DO NOT TWIST the white belly section below it (where you see the red X on the instruction photo). That joint is for the ab crunch bending forward & backward, and side to side. No twisting/swiveling! It is a half ball & socket facing forward, so twisting it enough will cause it to dislocate/pop off in the original release (due to the forward facing orientation). It can pop back on, just a bit tricky and you need to know how. But when people keep twisting that joint after putting it back together, of course it will fail again and again LOL. Renewal won't have that problem, the new screw will just stop you from twisting more than the joint can take. If you really force it, you have to break the screw connection and end up ripping that piece apart . Hope that solves the 7 year mystery. Feel bad for Sentinel though, with their name got smeared for many years, due to this. Everyone remembers the Shin Getter splitting in half . When it was really the fault of the owners not reading the instructions to begin with. "I am a simple man. I see a waist joint, I twist it. Instructions be damned."

due to human error from Riobot side not from us, same issue was in Mazinkaiser but in here instead of breaking in half it just pop out and you will need to have an engineering degree, an Olympic medal, and level 5 or above in the art of black magic in order to put it back together, the solution came from a dude who sold an upgraded kit to fix the issue
the key point in here is that this is figure with a main selling point of been highly articulated so when it break due to something silly like that its a major turn off

Mine did not break and did not pop out, have it sincr release (and yes I always check manuals first for everything, figures, game consoles, tvs....) Also, I have not seen Mass breaks, yes I've seen it pops out. I do not know What sentinel owner did to to you S_ but I feel it was something really bad 🤣

come bro, you dont do hardcore poses with your figures like i do, so yours is probably mint (virgin)
joking aside i really dont hate Sentinel, i think they keep pushing the bar in the articulation department even tho its mostly a plastic playground, they are a necessary evil, why evil because they always x2.5 overpriced you pay more for less, diecast and size wise, it just in these recent days we got a more diecast but not enough
my main issue is with some of their fanboys who always praise them waaaay to much and try to make it sound like a user error (not mpchi)
Mazinkiaser break in half, Shin Getter pop out in half, and Dancouga shoulders also break
im the type of a guy who point at those issues, but some dont like that
at the end im not earning a dollar or losing a dollar in this race im just saying what i think is right
