$3,550.01
Really?
I guess I've been priced out of the game. Even if I had the money, I'd buy a used car instead of a plastic robot.
Wow. That's at least twice what the last Gordian went for not three years ago.
Hope whomever won it enjoys! They've earned it.

Oh, yeah, that one... I was gonna mention it, but that auction was still Live when I saw it a couple days ago. That jumbo is a beauty indeed. But with that kind of money I'd rather buy a DX Mazinger and other holy grail goodies. zozo-mag

its pretty silly. i dont post here much anymore due to this board driving up prices. i just got back from japan and picked up another jumbo for much less than folks stateside will pay. jumbos are indeed rare, but not as rare as a lot of people think. i just got my grendizer, not a goldorak, for a few hundred bucks. its especially funny when i see people that dont know the anime or the character itself, and bid huge money on them. thats partially why a lot of japanese sellers wont ship to the USA etc. ebay and YJP are not the places to collect the less seen items.

Its big money to most of us here, but the Gordian is a nice rare piece. I am more surprised that the broken arm BF the same seller listed would fetch so much interests.

As mikedeco pointed out that Gordian is missing its proper shoulders.Definitely high priced, way more than I felt it should go,but its a very rare piece for a collector who doesn't go past ebay. I think some people go nuts for pieces like that, falling into a bidding war because they never see it, but don't really look that hard.

I think one person on this forum (board) is very negative in almost every post i see his name on. Is life really that bad to be grouchy on a forum about robots that everyone seems to love or they wouldn't be here. Good for you if you can get good deals. Change the forum and list them here for sale for your good prices if it bugs you that much. I won't complain. Thats not my thing. If i could get some good deals on robots i love i think i would be pretty happy. Must not be gettin any.

its pretty silly. i dont post here much anymore due to this board driving up prices. Actually, what is driving up prices is simply demand. Nothing more or less. Demand which I suspect is in part being fueled by the appearances of Jumbos in the media over the past year or so. Shows like "Collector Intervention" and "Toy Hunter" while fairly dreadful television, have managed to remind people of both these toy's existence as well as their desirability. Think about it. This board has been around literally forever and yet Jumbo prices have remained reasonably predictable up until just this past year. It is highly unlikely that the correlation of the increased visibility of the toys and the increased demand is coincidental.

Yup demand. Pure and simple. Two (or more) people want an item, one or more gets impatient, and the guns (wallets) come out blazing. People don't concentrate, overbid, then we get inflated market prices that may come down hard in the future. The best one though is when the crazy guys pop insane numbers in on an item that's not terribly rare but definitely a long shot to find. They say, "no one will go to x dollars" but someone does and then the guy is stuck overpaying piles of money for a toy.
What happened with the Gardian? Was it people fighting back and forth, or did someone try to come in with the knockout bid and it just jumped instantly from expensive to insane?
And by the way, I'm not rich by any means, but aside from good deals and finds that we all come across at one time or another, I always tell my friends, "don't be cheap, you've got to pay if you want play - just don't overpay."

And this kind of money usually won't come out from a JM beginner, probably needed it to just complete the robot factory series or something. And Mag, since when is the DX Mazinger a grail? I still see it everywhere. Lol

I think Mark does have a couple valid points, there are jumbos out there that can be found for less funds. But, you need to either have connections in Japan or if you are traveling to Japan, you need to be lucky to some degree to stumble across a store that doesn't have them priced very high. I don't see a dozen or so guys making the prices go up and up. When I first joined RJ, this section seemed pretty dead and had more activity back in the 2008 time period. I think we are just in the same boat as many others around the world, for using ebay and yjp to catch the old toys and only takes a couple people who really want an item to drive up the price. And I doubt they are on this forum. I do laugh at some more common items, and the seller puts a high starting or BIN price. Just like cars, start high and then work down if you have to. I just keep looking for obscure listed items and hope that I can get a nice price and not have another sniper at the very end, who out snipes me One extra bidder can ruin your day, lol. As I am sure they think the same thing for wondering why this other guy had to bid and ruin a really good low selling price.

I tend to do the same thing as Wes and look for the items which aren't as clearly listed or the figures which are in "junk" but salvageable condition.
I have managed to nab a few "bargain" Jumbos recently that way but it really takes time to sift through all of the listings to find them.

Jus kidding. lol Right now other priorities are gettin my way, and then of course bills; so I try to set aside a few bones here-n-there...... ...if I don't score me a DX Maz soon, it will become a grail to me. ;D Back to the topic of this jumbo machinder... the reason I didn't post about it as soon as I saw it on eBay was because the auction was still live at the time, and as a forum policy we do not post live auctions so as not to incite unfair competition amongst our fellow members here. I didn't think anyone would seriously spend that kind of money for a jumbo in that grade category. I was wrong and naive... I underestimated the buying power of the few Serious HARDCORE collectors in this hobby. Robot Japan isn't the only place on Earth with hardcore collectors in this hobby. But those who are of This caliber (the person who bought that Gordian) really do exist. zozo-mag And this kind of money usually won't come out from a JM beginner, probably needed it to just complete the robot factory series or something. And Mag, since when is the DX Mazinger a grail? I still see it everywhere. Lol

i think it was robonutter that thinks he got stuck with a needle. you sort of miss my point. as for negative comments, they exist. forum stuff is one thing, but rehashed talk over missing wheel fanatics seems to come in waves and a lot of posts i see re-re-retouch on things that people could sum up using the search bar. repro stuff and customs are ultra cool and this is a great source for that. as for marveling over a mattel gaiking etc for months, it may be like facebook for some, just a little too much internet time. if you actually read my post the real point was clear. forums like this do drive up your local prices. you may call it supply and demand, but its closer to a handful of people shooting in the dark. if you feel as though you are one of those people who doesnt know the name of a robot but wants to talk about the wheels on its feet for a few days, try losing some weight, get your teeth fixed and get away from the computer for just a little while. life may get better for you. im back and forth to japan regularly and just started hearing what ive read here before. "we wont send out of japan. they sell it for 3000 bucks and i can sell for only a few hundred. it affects our prices." just because you cant hop on a plane tomorrow and go to japan, that doesnt mean its impossible to avoid paying thousands for one. theres absolute clarity, sonny boy. go to japan yourself and prove me wrong. or you could just marvel on your couch over those mattel gaiking wheels and lose sleep if one missing.

Mark.
Yes, No and maybe.
Yes there are people here bidding on things which help increase demand.
No, that isn't the only factor, not by a long shot.
Maybe there are little shops in Japan selling rare jumbos for just a few hundred dollars however there are also at least three of the bigger stores in Japan that I know of (and probably far more that I don't) who would probably pay more themselves for the toys than those stores are asking if they found out where to go get them.
When you have stores in Japan itself posting hundreds of thousands of Yen "bountys" for uncommon to rare jumbos then the demand for them is certainly being driven by far more people than the couple of dozen who bother to post or read this specific sub-forum each week.
TV and some web programming has brought more attention to these toys recently and that translates into more demand, at least for the time being.

"we wont send out of japan. they sell it for 3000 bucks and i can sell for only a few hundred. it affects our prices." So what is stopping these same shop owners from listing their jumbos on eBay.com and also getting 3 grand a pop for them? Nothing, so that's a nonsense gripe. If they refuse to ship to the US it's for another reason that we can all guess and have heard before.
