Here's a peek at the 3D model I've been working on for awhile now. I'm actually making it into a resin cast fully articulated figure with 34 articulation points. It also has removable wings, fists/ weapons. I 3D printed a prototype a few months ago and I'm currently making the silicone molds for resin casting the parts. It's probably still going to be a little while though as there are a lot parts and some pieces that are not shown in these pictures. I engineered the joints using materials that can easily hold up these rather large parts. I haven't weighed the prototype yet, but it's really heavy for plastic. Enjoy! Wings closed Wings open

Wow, That looks SIIIIICK! Can't wait to see the live physical version once you have it finished... and if possible, please record a video demo of it in its articulated action poses and accessories! Thanks for sharing! That is so Epic! zozo-mag

Thanks for the encouragement guys! I'll post up a couple of the resin casts I've done in a week or so.

that looks pretty sick, my only concern is it stability since he looks kinda top heavy.

that looks pretty sick, my only concern is it stability since he looks kinda top heavy. The broad foot pads he worked into the design should take care of that, as long as the leg joints hold well.

that looks pretty sick, my only concern is it stability since he looks kinda top heavy. I tested the balance and stability with the prototype prints to make sure he is extremely stable. As it is currently, he can do a high kick standing on one foot and various other difficult poses.

bada$$ project...kudos to your 3d skills!!! Thanks man! Truthfully, this probably "looks" better as a model than how good I am as a 3D modeller. I can get the results I want, but 3D printing doesn't require the same kind of tightly structured mesh that pro 3D animation does... so for my 3D printed figures I can cut a lot of corners such as doing what are called boolean operations which is basically just ramming two shapes together (a no-no in most animation). Still, thanks for the encouragement.

Here's a couple more pics showing wings unattached, back view, and with bay doors open. The wings and hand weapons attach using magnets. Front view with wings attached Wings removed Bays open Back view showing rocket booster

BTW, I'm open to any criticism or thoughts on this. Do the proportions look ok? I know it's not a style that appeals to a lot of people as it is a more contemporary look, probably too pointy, and maybe too Gundam-ish for some... but I'm still curious to hear what people think.

I love the rear stabilizers behind the feet! My only concern is the thin waist... Picturing all the pressure that would be on the waist when firing the weapons....

looks pretty awesome so far, but something is missing on the area of his leg(knee area?), its like is missing some form of a mechanical component like a piston or something. it looks like 2 parts of the leg been held by one metal piece but nothing to actually giving it movement.
so far i like this thing, its stylish but not overpower by it. what is gonna be its size btw?

Are you talking behind the kneecap? So like the piece that connects the thigh to the ankle? I would love to have piston parts, but not sure how do-able it would be... Size will be roughly 8.75 inches (21.5 cm) from feet to top of head, and roughly 9.5 inches (24 cm) from feet to tip of wing.

I really like the coloring! Not what I'm used to with my jumbos. A little smaller than I like, but I'd buy one.

Did you use Google Sketch-Up to model that 3D version?
By the way it looks in those renderings, it reminds me of the way Google Sketch-Up uses flat-shade colors on objects.

I'm a Google Sketchup freak. Especially for robots and hard geometry. I really like it because it's fast and easy. Sketchup has actually made a lot of headway into organic modelling also. In the last year or there is now a plugin called Artisan that works on the same basic principles as standard organic modellers.
